Today is the first Saturday in October and that means it’s time to celebrate World Card Making Day. You’ll see lots on social media, but I hope you’ll spend a little time following me on my Facebook page too. For the 7th year running I’ll be attempting to design and make 24 different cards in a single 24 hour period. While I was clearing my desk in readiness I came across a scrap of Winter Meadow Designer Series Paper left over from a previous card project so I made this…

WINTER MEADOW SCRAP
The scrap of Winter Meadow Designer Series Paper (DSP) I’d picked up was just 2″ x 3″. It was virtually all that was left from a 6″ x 6″ piece I’d cut to make a card with a decorated inside and envelope. I hate to waste even the smallest scraps so I decided to use this piece to make a coordinating gift tag.
In order to speed things along I placed the DSP onto some Moody Mauve Card. Then from the Tailor Made Tags Dies I chose the largest of the flat-topped dies. I placed the die on top of the two layers leaving a 1/4″ strip of the card showing along the bottom and cut them out.
I’d originally thought I would add a mat layer under the DSP but then had another idea. First I fixed a line of Tear & Tape Adhesive along the top and bottom edges of the DSP. Then after removing the backing paper I placed some pieces of Gilded Leafing on top of the adhesive. I pressed the gilding in place with my fingers and then removed the excess using a Small Blending Brush I keep especially for this purpose. With the gilding in place I mounted the DSP onto the tag base using Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow).

JUST FOR YOU
Next I went looking for a sentiment and chose “Just for you” from the Charming Sentiments Stamp Set. Using Pretty Peacock ink I stamped the sentiment onto a scrap of Basic White Card. Then I cut that out using the #2 circle die from the Stylish Shapes Dies (counting up from the smallest). With that done I added the sentiment to the tag front using Stampin’ Dimensionals.
Now I just needed to add a couple of finishing touches. First I cut a 1-1/2″ x 2-1/2″ piece of Basic White Card and glued it to the back of the tag. This would give me somewhere to add the most important part of a gift tag, the “to” and “from” information.
Then from a tiny scrap of Pretty Peacock Card I cut some oval hole reinforcements using the die included in the Tailor Made Tags set. I added one each to the back and front of the tag with a little liquid glue. Finally I cut 6″ of gold cord from the Simply Elegant Trim pack and threaded it through the hole. Once I’d tied the ends of the cord with a simple knot my scrappy tag was complete.
In my introduction I mentioned that the piece of Winter Meadow DSP was a scrap left over from a card project. So In case you missed it, here’s the tag alongside the coordinating card project (both made from a single 6″ x 6″ piece of Winter Meadow DSP). You’ll find all the instructions for the card in my blog post Winter Meadow news.

So now I’m off to finish preparing for my 24 cards in 24 hours challenge. I hope you follow along as I provide live updates of my progress and post photos of each of the cards as they’re completed. It all starts at 11am (Atlantic Time) today.
PRODUCT LIST
Did you know that there are dies (not used today) that coordinate with the Charming Sentiments Stamp Set? They’re called Sentiment Silhouettes Dies and designed to cut specially shaped mats for all 18 sentiments in the Charming Sentiments Stamp Set. It also has some additional shapes to give a total of 30 dies in the set.
