Do you love getting the maximum use out of your craft supplies as much as I do? When choosing a stamp set or dies I like to think of all the different ways they can be used. That came in really handy when playing with a cute lion image for this week’s What Will You Stamp? challenge.
As a member of the What Will You Stamp? challenge Design Team I was working on WWYS182 – A Little Wild. In addition to four sweet sentiments, this set contains line art images of a bear and elephant plus the cute lion. Then there’s four other smaller images that complement the main ones. What’s interesting though is that there’s a back view of each animal on the same stamp as the front. The coordinating Little Loves Framelits are designed to die-cut the front and back together so when folded it creates a gift tag. Clever huh?
For my Design Team project however I wanted to use this stamp set in an entirely different way. So when I sat down in my craft studio it was to make a card.
FIRST THINGS FIRST
When I thought of the lion I thought of the jungle and the Tropical Escape Designer Series Paper (DSP). I chose a simple repeating leaf pattern in shades of Granny Apple Green to cover the whole card front.
Using my Stampin’ Trimmer I cut and scored some Thick Whisper White Card. Then I folded it along the scored line and sharpened the crease with a Bone Folder. Finally I attached the patterned paper to the front with Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow)
At this point I decided the paper would be perfect to create a coordinated look across the project.
I cut a 3/4″ strip of the DSP and with liquid glue attached in to the right side of a layer of Whisper White Card. The layer was fixed inside the card base with more liquid glue.
Then I attached another piece of the DSP to the flap of a Whisper White Medium Envelope with liquid glue. Cutting it to shape was a simple task using Paper Snips to follow the edge of the flap.
THE SENTIMENT
The ‘wild about you’ sentiment came next, stamped onto Whisper White Card with Memento Tuxedo Black ink.
Now it was time for my Big Shot and Magnetic Platform with the square dies from the Stitched Shapes Framelits. First the sentiment was cut out using the #3 square die (counting from the smallest up). Then I cut a piece of Granny Apple Green Card with the #4 square die.
With liquid glue I attached the sentiment to the Granny Apple Green layer, then fixed it to the front of the card base with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
COLOURING THE CUTE LION
The cute lion was first stamped onto Thick Whisper White Card with Tuxedo Black Ink. Then it was cut out using the coordinating die from the Little Loves Framelits. Finally, as I didn’t need the back view of the lion, I trimmed off that section using Paper Snips.
Now it was time for some fun with my Stampin’ Blends alcohol markers. I don’t have the whole range of Stampin’ Blends (yet), but I had a plan for my lion.
I began by colouring the whole image using the Ivory Stampin’ Blends marker. Then I went over everything except the inside of his ears with a light Daffodil Delight marker. Light Crumb Cake came next over the mane, body and legs and tail. Then dark Crumb Cake was used to add some shadow around the legs and end of the tail. Finally I finished with a Bronze marker for his sweet little nose.
JUNGLE FOLIAGE
My choice of foliage to create a ‘jungle’ feel is a bit obvious I know. Large ‘palm’ fronds from the Tropical Thinlits Dies cut from Shaded Spruce Card with my Big Shot and multipurpose platform.
With 4 palm fronds cut, I fixed them across the bottom left corner of the sentiment with liquid glue.
Finally I was ready to add my cute lion, tucked among the foliage with Stampin’ Dimensionals. My lion in the jungle card design was now finished.
I really like how this project turned out. It just goes to show that ‘baby’ images, and ‘tag’ shapes can be so much more. What’s more I think I may have created my first Valentine’s card for 2019!

Really really sweet, Tracy. Looove all the paper choices too … that DSP is just gorgeous! (I got TWO in fact). Yes, I enjoy seeing how far I can push a stamp set too … this is a cute Valentine’s card, and personally, it could be for ANY age group too, for that matter. Love it.
Thank you Geraldine.
