It’s the first Friday in the month and that means it’s time for the A Paper Pumpkin Thing blog hop. This month we’re celebrating ten years of Paper Pumpkin kits with alternate projects using the March 2023 kit. The colour palette used in the aptly named “10 Years Of Growth” kit is absolutely gorgeous and very spring-like. I’ve even created an image using some of these as inspiration for future projects. For my alternate projects I decided to make a card along with a quick and easy gift card holder.

ALTERNATE GROWTH CARD
For my first project I began by using my Paper Trimmer to cut and score some Orchid Oasis Card. Then I folded it along the scored line and sharpened the crease with a Bone Folder for a colourful card base.
Next I took a polka dot card base from the kit and cut along the scored line. After trimming the plain white back section to 4″ x 5-1/4″ I fixed it inside mye card base using Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow). Finally using more liquid glue I attached one of the tall leafy die-cut pieces from the kit to the bottom right-hand side of the card liner.

To decorate the card front I started by cutting a 1″ x 5-1/2″ piece of Coastal Cabana Card. Then from the polka dot piece I trimmed off a 1/2″ x 5-1/2″ strip and glued that onto the Coastal Cabana strip. Next I took another of the tall leafy pieces from the kit and glued the leaves on the left of the stalk to the right-hand side of my layered strips. Finally I tucked the bottom of the stalk behind the layers and glued it into place.
Now I needed one of the wide white banner pieces from the kit along with the 10 Years of Growth photopolymer stamp set. Using Shaded Spruce ink I stamped “sending all our love” at the right-hand end of the banner. Next I glued the other end behind the long strips of card. Finally I flipped everything over and put Stampin’ Dimensionals onto the back. Once I’d attached the assembled piece to the card front my first project was complete.
Before moving onto the second project, here’s the colour palette inspiration I created:

SOMETHING FOR MOTHER
For my second project I started with the remains of the polka dot card base. First I trimmed it to 3-1/2″ x 5-1/2″. Next, with the dotty side up and the short side at the top I scored the card at 1/4″. Then with the long side at the top I scored the card at 1/4″ and 2-7/8″. After folding the card along the scored lines I sharpened the creases with a Bone Folder.

To create the basic gift card holder I first needed to create some little tabs. So with my Paper Snips I cut across the corner where the two scored lines made a square. Then I cut along the long scored line from other end to the centre crease. Next I trimmed the end of the remaining tab at an angle before putting liquid glue onto the two tabs. Finally I tucked in the tabs, folded the larger section onto them, and pressed it firmly into place.
At this point I thought it would be useful to add a thumb hole at the top to make removing the gift card easier. So I slid the open end of the gift card holder into the retiring Label Me Fancy Punch and used it to create the notch.
While the gift card holder was drying I went back to the kit for a wide white banner and the stamp set. This time I stamped “to a wonderful mother” in the centre of the banner with Shaded Spruce ink.

Instead of the leafy pieces I decided my gift card decoration would be a little more abstract. So using liquid glue I attached the two printed plant pots upside down behind the top of the sentiment banner. Then I added Stampin’ Dimensionals to the back of the assembled sentiment and fixed it to the front of the gift card holder.
To finish I tied a small bow from some Linen Thread and added it to the sentiment with a Mini Glue Dot. And just like that I’d created two alternate projects using one card base from the 10 Years Of Growth kit.
