It’s the last Thursday of the month and time for another A Paper Pumpkin Thing blog hop. The February kit “Lovely Day” was so hard to put down with a box full of gorgeous stamps and kit pieces. After making one of each of the three designs using the instructions, I couldn’t wait to play…
CELEBRATE WITH A LOVELY DAY
My first alternate project using the Lovely Day kit is a striking but simple card.

I began by using my Paper Trimmer to cut and score some Rococo Rose Card. Then I folded it along the scored line and sharpened the crease with a Bone Folder to create a card base.
Next, using Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow) I attached a layer of Whisper White Card to the front of the card base. That was followed by a piece cut from the back of a pink card base from the kit.
With the base prepared I then turned to the sentiment layer. For this I pulled out to the coordinating Happy Birthday Stamp Set from the Sale-A-Bration Brochure. Using the Rococo Rose ink spot I stamped “celebrate” onto some Whisper White Card. Then I mounted that onto some Gold Glimmer Paper with Tear & Tape Adhesive before adding it to the card base with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
Finally it was time to ink up the gorgeous peony image from the Lovely Day Stamp Set in the kit.
LOVELY DAY PEONY
To stamp the peony I decided to use Tuxedo Black ink. I stamped the whole flower once onto some Old Olive Card. Then I stamped it three times onto Petal Pink Card. Finally I stamped just the centre of the peony onto a scrap of So Saffron Card.
With the stamping complete I set to work cutting out the images with Paper Snips.

First the image on the Old Olive piece was cut out complete with leaves, but without the tiny berry pieces. Then from the Petal Pink card I cut out the three flowers without the leaves and berries. One of the flowers was set aside, and I cut some of the outer petals from the second flower. Then I took the third flower and cut off even more of the petals. Finally from the So Saffron piece I cut just the very centre of the flower.
With all the pieces cut all I had to do was use liquid glue to layer them on top of each other to create a subtle 3D effect. Then I glued the assembled peony onto the sentiment layer. I also added a few Stampin’ Dimensionals under the parts that extended past the edge of the sentiment.

To complete this card I used some of the scraps from the Petal Pink striped card base. I cut and glued a strip along the bottom edge of a layer of Whisper White Card. Then I fixed the layer inside the card base.
Finally a second piece was glued along the bottom of a pink envelope from the kit and my project was complete.
FACEBOOK LIVE GIFT TAG
For my second alternate project I thought I’d bring you the gift tag I created for this month’s Paper Pumpkin Facebook Live event.

For the tag I started with a 2″ strip of Thick Very Vanilla Card shaped at the top using the Scalloped Tag Topper Punch. Then using some Stampin’ Sponge I added a light layer of Seaside Spray ink over the whole surface.
With the tag base prepared, my next task was to add the die-cut peony from the Lovely Day kit using liquid glue. Then I threaded some Petal Pink 5/8″ Striped Organdy Ribbon through the slot and secured it in place with a small bow tied with some Whisper White Baker’s Twine.
Next came the sentiment from the kit, starting with “birthday” stamped onto a 1/4″ scrap of Thick Very Vanilla Card using Soft Suede ink. This was added to the bottom of the peony with liquid glue, then the foam “wishes” from the kit was fixed below it.
To finish off this quick tag I went back to the kit for some glue dots and sequins. Once they were attached my birthday tag was complete.
If you watched the Facebook Live, or saw the Paper Pumpkin blog post this week you’ll know that I’ve made even more alternate projects. This kit is one that just keeps on giving and I’m going to need to buy another Lovely Day Refill Kit before they run out! The refill kits contain everything from the original kit but NOT the ink spot or stamp set, which is fine as I already have those. If you’re hoping to get the full kit, there’s a slim chance that Stampin’ Up! may release some in a month or two. Like the refill kit, you’ll only be able to buy them if you’re a Paper Pumpkin subscriber.
DON’T MISS MARCH!
In March we’ll be celebrating Paper Pumpkin’s 7th birthday, and birthdays are often accompanied by gifts. Well the gift will be for us in the form of an additional FREE stamp set included in every March kit. This exclusive second 4″ x 6″ stamp set will not be available to purchase so make sure you subscribe to Paper Pumpkin now.

The March kit will contain everything you need to create twelve 3-1/2″ x 5″ cards with envelopes (4 cards each of 3 different designs). As always everything will be prepared for you, and the box will include adhesives, a mini ink spot, an exclusive stamp set and instructions. If you’re a new subscriber your box will even have an acrylic block so you can get stamping straight away! The special box (see above) holds some clues about the theme for the cards. Also in the March box will be second larger stamp set that is not required to complete the cards, but is an extra bonus for subscribing this month.
I have a feeling that the March kit may sell out before the end of the subscription period (March 10th) so I recommend that you subscribe now. Stampin’ Up! guarantees you’ll be happy with the kit so you’ve nothing to lose, and everything to gain. If you subscribe to Paper Pumpkin through me and don’t like the kit when you receive it, just let me know and I’ll arrange for you to receive a refund. I can’t say fairer than that.
LOVELY DAY CONTINUES
Now I’ve shown you my alternate project ideas for the Lovely Day kit, it’s time to hop on over to the other members of the team to see what they created.
