It’s the last Thursday in the month and that means another A Paper Pumpkin Thing blog hop. This month we’re showcasing alternate projects using the November 2019 Paper Pumpkin kit “Winter Gifts”.
There was so much in the box this month as you’d expect with a kit designed to make 24 large gift tags. However my alternate projects are ideas for using the pieces to make something else.
STAG AND STARLIGHT

First up I wanted to make something featuring the striking silver stag from the kit.
To start I took a 2″ x 5-1/2″ strip of Seaside Spray Card and punched the top using the Delightful Tag Topper Punch. Then using some Stampin’ Sponge I sponged a layer of Blueberry Bushel ink over the surface. With that done I sponged some Night of Navy ink around the edges.
TIP – When adding so much ink to a piece of card I like to leave it to dry for a minute or two before attempting to glue anything onto it.
So while I was waiting for the ink to dry I set to work creating a tassel. For this I used the silver thread from the Winter Gifts kit and some Whisper White Baker’s Twine. Once it was done I attached it to the bookmark.
Next I used a Fine-Tip Glue Pen to fix the stag in place. It was a little wider than the card so I used my Paper Snips to trim off the excess.
Finally I used the Fine-Tip Glue Pen to add a scattering of dots over the ‘sky’. I sprinkled the glue with Dazzling Diamonds Stampin’ Glitter and then tapped off the excess. In no time at all my first alternate project for the Winter Gifts kit was complete.
By the way, if you’ve never tied a tassel before check out my blog post Taking time to tie a tassel.
CARDINAL CARD
My second project is also a non-tag project. It’s a card featuring a number of the larger elements from the Winter Gifts kit.

First I made my card base using my new Paper Trimmer to cut and score a piece of Night of Navy Card. Then I folded it along the scored line and sharpened the crease with a Bone Folder.
Next I used Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow) to add a piece of Pool Party Card to the front leaving 1″ of the base showing. Then I trimmed off some of the waste from the silver stag sheet. This narrow strip was glued up against the edge of the Pool Party layer.
After that I took the large tree tag base and cut off the circle at the top with my Paper Snips. Then I went over the ‘snow’ on the tree with the Fine-Tip Glue Pen. I sprinkled Dazzling Diamonds Stampin’ Glitter over the glue and tapped off the excess, then set it aside to dry.
PEACE
Now I was ready to work on the sentiment for my card starting with the wide strip from the Winter Gifts kit. I liked the size and shape but not the plain white colour so I decided to change it. Using Night of Navy ink I simply sponged some ink leaving it lighter in some places to add interest.
Once I’d finished sponging I wiped the strip with an Embossing Buddy to remove any oils and static. Then using VersaMark ink I stamped the “Peace” sentiment from the Winter Gifts kit. Next I sprinkled the sticky ink with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder and tapped off the excess. Finally once I’d removed a few stray specks I melted the remaining powder with my Heat Tool set on 2 (high).
With the embossing done I took one of the narrow sentiment strips from the kit and snipped it in half. Then I was able to glue the two pieces behind my sponged and embossed sentiment.

Now I was ready to assemble the front of my card. I started with the tree and attached it directly to the card front with liquid glue. Then came the sentiment, added using Stampin’ Dimensionals. Finally I added one of the cardinals from the kit. Where it sat on the sentiment I used liquid glue, while the rest of it was supported with pieces of Stampin’ Dimensionals.
To finish my card I glued a layer of Whisper White Card to the inside of the card base. Then I added a narrow strip of silver cut from the stag layer. With another strip of silver glued to the front of my Whisper White Medium Envelope my second project was done.
