Today’s project took longer than normal to make. Not because it’s difficult, but because I had to stop to unclog my Fine-Tip Glue Pen. As I was finishing this task I realised it would be helpful if I filmed my process so I could show you what I do. Unfortunately in the video I’d zoomed in really close on my second bottle and most of what I was doing was off camera! So while I wait for it to get clogged again, here’s the adorable owl that started it all.

STANDING OWL
My project began when I chose the standing owl from the Adorable Owls Stamp Set, Using Tuxedo Black ink I stamped him on the left side of a 2-3/4″ x 2-3/4″ piece of Basic White Card. Then from the Adorable Owls Stamp Set I chose the “It’s your day!” sentiment and stamped that in the top right corner.
Colouring in my owl was quick and easy using Stampin’ Blends alcohol marker without any blending. For the feathers I used light and dark Petal Pink. Then for the party hat I chose light and dark Flirty Flamingo. Turning to his eyes I used dark Crumb Cake for the irises, and light crumb cake for the little highlight. Finally I used light Crumb Cake to colour his feet.
Of course this little owl was standing and so before moving on I scribbled a little ‘ground’ beneath his feet using the Crumb Cake Stampin’ Blends.
With that done I used Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow) to mount the completed layer onto a 2-7/8″ x 2-7/8″ piece of Flirty Flamingo Card.
ADORABLE EYES
Now I needed to create the tag base, using my Paper Trimmer to cut a 3″ x 6″ piece of Petal Pink Card. With the long side at the top I scored the card at 3″, then I folded it along the scored line and sharpened the crease with a Bone Folder.
Next I opened up the card and slid it under the slot option on the Very Best Trio Punch. With the crease a little to the right of the centre line, I pressed down so the slot was punched close to the crease on the back of my tag. Then I tied on some white twine from the Baker’s Twine Essentials Pack.

After folding the tag again I used Stampin’ Dimensoinals to fix my owl layer on the front, and essentially my project was complete. But as I looked at those big brown eyes I realised that I could add one final special touch. And that’s when I reached for the Fine-Tip Glue Pen. After unclogging it I carefully added the glue over both of the owl’s eyes and set it aside to dry for 24 hours (just to be sure).
I’ll be honest and say that I don’t use the Fine-Tip Glue Pen a whole lot. That’s because I love my Multipurpose Liquie Glue (Tombow) which creates a really strong bond that has never once become ‘unstuck’. However what I love about the glue in the Fine-Tip Glue Pen is that it dries clear and, unlike Multipurpose Liquid Glue, is not sticky when dry. This means it’s perfect for adding a glossy finish to a project. Just be careful when using it over ink as too much all at once can make the ink bleed.
Now I need to deliberately clog up my Fine-Tip Glue Pens so I can redo the video properly. Meanwhile, if you missed my first project featuring the flying owl from this stamp set, check out my earlier blog post Adorable owls.
