It’s time for another simple Sunday project and this week it’s a quick and easy card idea using the Rustic Crate Stamp Set. One of the things I hear a lot from fellow crafters is how challenging it can be to manage their card scraps. One way I’ve learned to deal with the problem is to make sure I actually use the scraps I keep. So every now and then I’ll design a card purely based on what scraps I have. The same goes for things like twine and ribbon.

ODD SIZED LAYERS
When I began to design this card all I had in mind was multiple layers in autumn colours. So I started by choosing Wild Wheat Card for my A2 card base. Using my Paper Trimmer I cut the card at 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″. Then with the long side at the top I scored it at 4-1/4″. After folding the card along the scored line I sharpened the crease with a Bone Folder.
Then I reached for my plastic pockets of card scraps. I have one pocket for each Stampin’ Up! colour and chose three of them; Calypso Coral, Copper Clay and Old Olive. Then I simply had a look among these scraps for some smaller square or rectangular pieces.
In the end I selected a 2-1/2″ x 3-3/4″ piece of Copper Clay Card. Then two pieces of Old Olive that were both 1-3/4″ x 2-1/4″. Finally from the Calypso Coral scraps I chose one that was 1-5/8″ x (just under) 3″ and another that was 1-7/8″ x 2″.
Having chosen the card I used Blending Brushes to add the matching ink around the edges of each card piece. However I thought the Calypso Coral ink was too light so I added a little Copper Clay to those pieces as well. With that done I attached one of the Old Olive pieces and the larger Calypso Coral piece onto the front of my card base using Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow).
RUSTIC CRATE STAMPING
Now I was ready for a little stamping with the rooted stems image from the Rustic Crate Stamp Set. Using Copper Clay ink I stamped the image twice on the Copper Clay card. I wanted the tops of the stems to be just at the top of the piece which meant they overlapped across the middle. It did look odd but once I was finished that part would be completely hidden. So having done that I glued the stamped piece in the centre of the card front, before layering the second Old Olive piece on top.

Before putting away the stamp I decided to make the stems the coordinating feature for my project. First I stamped them along the bottom of a 4″ x 5-1/4″ piece of Very Vanilla Card. Then I added some Copper Clay ink over the images using a Blending Brush. With that done I glued the layer inside the card base. Finally I stamped the stems along the front of a Very Vanilla Medium Envelope and added the brushed ink there too.
That just left the sentiment, and from the Rustic Crate Stamp Set I chose “Every day with you is better”. Then using Early Espresso ink I stamped it towards the right-hand end of the remaining Calypso Coral Card scrap.
To finish I had a rummage in my pot of twine scraps and found some Copper Clay twine from the 2023 In Color Jute Trim pack, together with some gold cord from the Simply Elegant Trim pack. Each piece was about 5″ long although after I’d twisted one of each together they shortened a little. Even so, they were still long enough to lay over the left end of the sentiment layer so I could secure the ends on the back with Tear & Tape Adhesive. Once the twine pieces were in place I added the assembled sentiment to the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals and my scrappy design was complete.
I love how this card turned out and I now have 5 fewer pieces of scrap card, and four fewer pieces of scrap twine. Result!
