Like many of you I’ve been glued to the news about the 12 boys and their soccer coach trapped deep inside a flooded cave system in Thailand. Over the past two days 8 boys have been rescued, and as I write this post the process of getting the remaining 5 people out is already underway.
This drama has captured the attention of the world and there are hundreds of people involved in helping to ensure that this story has a happy ending. Some have travelled from across the globe to assist the Thai Navy Seals with their diving and cave rescue expertise. Others are local people, cooking, washing clothes and offering transport to the rescuers, doing whatever they can to show their gratitude without any thought of fame or compensation. While there are a few that see this as a way to promote their own personal agenda, for the most part, this is humanity at its best.
So today’s project was created with this in mind, and while I reached for the Designer Series Paper (DSP) because this image reminded me of the jungle, it was only afterwards I remembered that the pack was called Tropical Escape.
I began with the DSP, cut to cover the entire front of a card base cut from Thick Whisper White Card, and fixed to it with Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow).
I attached another piece of the same DSP to the flap of a Whisper White Medium Envelope and cut it to shape with Paper Snips.
Finally I added a 3/4″ strip of the DSP down the right side of a layer of Whisper White Card and fixed that inside the card base.
Using my Big Shot and multipurpose platform with dies from the Stitched Shapes Framelits I cut out pieces for the focal point of my card. On the Granny Apple Green Card I used the #3 square die, and on the Whisper White Card the #2 square die (counting from the smallest up).
The Granny Apple Green piece was fixed to the front of the card with liquid glue and then a piece of 5/8″ Burlap Ribbon was attached diagonally across it with Tear & Tape Adhesive. On top of the Burlap Ribbon I used more Tear & Tape to add a piece of Daffodil Delight 1/4″ Double-Stitched Ribbon.
Finally I used Shaded Spruce ink to stamp the sentiment from the Waterfront Stamp Set onto the die-cut Whisper White piece (it’s a photopolymer stamp so I could look right through it to get the perfect placement). With a few Stampin’ Dimensionals I placed the sentiment over the ribbon and I was done.
I love the feel of this card, the rustic burlap ribbon compliments the leaves, while the pop of bright yellow adds a cheery accent. I think it all acts as the perfect backdrop for the sentiment. I hope you like it.

Ordinarily, your Blog is the 1st place I go in the morning, but this morning, it was Google News and SO relieved to know that it’s such a happy outcome! Phew! I think we (the whole world!) needed some good news! Love the card/envelope … by chance, have you ever compared the Granny Apple green to an actual Granny Apple to see how close the colour is? Lol — just curious! The Tropical Escape DSP looks great too! Great inspiration this morning! Thank you!
Thank you Geraldine. I’ve been watching the BBC News live feed for the past 3 days. All the boys and their coach are now out, just waiting for confirmation that the 4 divers that have been looking after the team in the cavern, and the rescue teams that have worked so hard are all safe. Good news tinged with sadness though for Saman Gunan who died while helping to set up the rescue. As to Granny Apple Green, no I haven’t compared the card to the fruit, but it’s one of my favourite apple varieties, so I’ll let you know my thoughts.
