Many years ago when I first started papercrafting I was introduced to the 'blockfill technique'. Basically I would create a colourful image and then partially surround it with a block of really dark colour, usually black. The beauty of the technique is in the contrast between the two areas. The challenge was getting the dark colour without telltale streaks, but the new Basic Black Stampin' Blends now makes this possible. So as soon as I saw the Lovely Lattice Stamp Set I was determined to ... VIEW POST
Perennial Birthday #SimpleStamping
It's Sunday again and we had a lot of snow overnight. Still, the sky has cleared and it's a gorgeous sunny morning here in Nova Scotia. I love how the sun shines off freshly fallen snow, I just don't like shovelling it. Especially since it's currently minus 12C right now. I'd rather stay in and craft and that means a Simple Sunday project. Today I'm combining that with the Stampin' Up! #simplestamping challenge. The brief for February is simple - use stamps, ink and paper with the bonus ... VIEW POST
It’s Groundhog Day
Today's Groundhog Day and our local weather prognosticator, Shubenacadie Sam has just predicted another six weeks of winter. Gee thanks Sam! I woke up with a scratchy throat and what could be the beginnings of earache, so not a great start to Superbowl weekend. For my project I decided to revisit a favourite colour combination, pink and grey to make a really simple but elegant thank you card. ANIMAL EXPEDITION WITH NO ANIMALS It all began with the Animal Expedition 12" x 12" ... VIEW POST
The Icing On The Cupcake
My regular blog readers will know that I love it when there's dies or punches that coordinate with stamp images. I'm sure I'm not the only one. But if push comes to shove I'm not afraid of a little fussy cutting. That's exactly what I needed to do on today's cupcake tag project, but not for much longer... ONE FOR THE BOYS Today I decided to use the free Hello Cupcake Stamp Set from the Sale-A-Bration Brochure to make a tag that would be suitable for the boys. The Hello Cupcake Stamp Set ... VIEW POST
Love Is Drinking The Tea
When I was a little girl visiting our grandparents was a real treat. We didn't always have a car so it didn't happen as much as any of us would have liked. When we did go I remember being reminded about manners and acceptable behaviour. Not that we needed reminding, the way our grandparents behaved and spoke was reminder enough. When Grandma would offer us a plate of biscuits we only took one, and had to be persuaded to take a second. Mum always mentioned that Grandma was never asked "how ... VIEW POST
Live Life Make Memories
One of the things I've noticed about my daughter (and others of her generation) is that they take a lot of photos. What I've also noticed is that they rarely, if ever, make it out of electronic format. I know it's nice to have photos at your fingertips but sometimes printed photos are nicer. I love being able to share and talk about memories while flicking through an actual photo album. Sharing memories doesn't mean you have to create elaborate 12" x 12" scrap book pages. I've done that ... VIEW POST
Fly Fisherman Timing
Have you ever been fishing? I must admit it's a hobby that's never appealed to me, but I do appreciate the skills needed to succeed. Patience and preparation, being quiet and still then a sudden burst of activity. Even getting the hook into the water is an art form, especially if you're a fly fisherman. Today's project features the Best Catch Stamp Set and coordinating Catch of the Day Thinlits. I also have some important news from Stampin' Up!, but like that fisherman, you'll just have to ... Meant To Be for WWYS204
Yesterday for my Simple Sunday project I altered a dreamy design from the Floral Romance Specialty Designer Series Paper (DSP) and made it quite graphic. Today for my What Will You Stamp? Challenge Design Team project I went back to the same paper pack. This time though I chose one of the gorgeous printed vellum sheets for challenge #WWYS204. I suppose you could say it was 'meant to be'. A SIMPLE START I began my project with some Thick Whisper White Card, cut and scored using my ... VIEW POST
What a Lemon
Every Sunday I create a Simple Sunday project. This might be a simple layout or a simple technique. While it might be simple, that doesn't always mean quick. But sometimes that's a good thing. Today it freed me to come up with a unique solution for my sentiment, the Lemon Builder Punch. BUT FIRST THE BACKGROUND This project all started with the background. I wanted something gender neutral and organic, so leaves made sense. I was drawn to the Floral Romance Specialty Designer ... VIEW POST
When the gears finally engaged
One of the things I love about Stampin' Up! products is the coordination. They make it so easy to put projects together. Colours used on Designer Series Paper (DSP) is listed in the catalogue and on the packs. These match with the card , ink, ribbon and other accessories. Sometimes they go even further and match DSP patterns with stamp images and dies or punches. Well yesterday while creating today's project the gears finally engaged and forced me to change my project design. I've already ... VIEW POST
