Compared to many Independent Stampin’ Up! Demonstrators I don’t have a huge amount of current products. Still it’s very easy sometimes for me to forget what I do have. So last weekend’s 24 cards in 24 hours marathon was the perfect opportunity to rediscover some old favourites. One of those was the Cane Weave 3D Embossing Folder used to create this masculine birthday card. In fact I used it to decorate the inside of the card and the envelope flap. But the highlight was seeing it shining in distressed gold.

CANE WEAVE AT SPEED
As I was working against the clock this had to be a quick and easy card design. I began by using my Paper Trimmer to cut and score some Early Espresso Card. Then I folded it along the scored line and sharpened the crease with a Bone Folder.
Next I cut a 1-3/4″ x 4-1/4″ strip of Very Vanilla Card along with a 1-7/8″ x 4-1/4″ piece of Copper Clay Card. For the sentiment I chose the bold “Happy Birthday” from the Celebrate With Tags Stamp Set and Copper Clay ink pad. After stamping the the sentiment at the right-hand end of the Very Vanilla piece I mounted it onto the Copper Clay strip using Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow). Then with Stampin’ Dimensionals I added it to the card base 3/4″ from the bottom edge.
Now I was ready for the Cane Weave 3D Embossing Folder. First I embossed the flap of a Very Vanilla Medium Envelope. Then I cut a 4″ x 5-1/4″ piece of Very Vanilla Card and embossed a 1″ strip along the top edge. Using liquid glue I fixed this layer inside the card base. Finally I cut a 1″ x 5-1/2″ piece of Distressed Gold 12″ x 12″ Specialty Paper and embossed that too.

I still needed a mat layer for the gold piece and for that I cut a 1-1/8″ x 5-1/2″ piece of Copper Clay Card. Using liquid glue I mounted the embossed strip on top, then with Stampin’ Dimensionals on the back I added the assembled piece to the card front 3/8″ from the crease.
To finish I added a column of three Rustic Metallic Adhesive-backed Dots in the top right corner of the card front. And just like that my card was done.
The design and layout of this card is very simple, but I have to admit that the embossed gold strip really adds a special touch. Please leave a comment below and let me know what you think.
