A couple of days ago a good friend of my daughter announced she was expecting a baby. I know she’s had difficulties conceiving and so we are delighted to hear her news. It really is a dream come true for them and today I set out to create a simple card to mark the occasion.

GREAT EXPECTATIONS
I knew exactly where to find my focal image and sentiment for this card, the Wonderful Moments Stamp Set. This set contains some lovely line art images and I wanted to use this one of an expectant mother.
I began by stamping the image onto Very Vanilla Card using Tuxedo Black ink. Then I simply coloured the image in Crushed Curry, Coastal Cabana and Flirty Flamingo from the Watercolor Pencils Assortment 2. Just to be different I decided not to add water but instead used them as regular colouring pencils.
Once I’d finished I used Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow) to mount the image onto a layer of Crushed Curry Card. As there was quite a large open area above her head I decided to add some ribbon detail. I chose Whisper White 5/8″ Polka Dot Tulle Ribbon for this, and simply wrapped it around the layers, securing it on the back with Tear & Tape Adhesive.
DREAM COME TRUE
The “Dream Come True” sentiment came next, stamped onto a smaller piece of Very Vanilla Card with Tuxedo Back ink. Then to coordinate with the image layer I mounted that onto Crushed Curry Card too.

I wanted to pick up on the dream theme so went looking for an appropriate patterned paper to use as a background layer. I found the perfect one in the Perennial Essence 12″ x 12″ Designer Series Paper (DSP) pack.
Using liquid glue I attached the one piece to the front of a card base created using Thick Very Vanilla Card. Then I cut a 3/4″ strip of the DSP and glued that to a Very Vanilla layer which was fixed inside the card base.
Finally I used liquid glue to attach one last piece to the flap of a Very Vanilla Medium Envelope. Then I cut the paper to shape with Paper Snips using the edge of the flap as a guide.
Now all I needed to do was use Stampin’ Dimensionals to fix the image layer to the card front, followed by the sentiment.
This really was a simple card to put together. No special techniques were needed and even the ribbon was easy with no bow to tie. It’s exactly what I had in mind.
