It’s the weekend, it’s not snowing, and the sun is shining. I’ve decided that I’m going to have a very productive day even if it did get off to a slow start. One of the blessings of modern technology is that not only has it enabled me to have this blog, it also allows me to connect with my daughter and granddaughter in the UK. We connect most days, either by instant message or video, and it’s something we all look forward to.
After a nice chat this morning, today’s card project seemed particularly apt with a wonderful sentiment. It didn’t hurt that both the stamp set and patterned paper were completely free either.

BERRY DELIGHTFUL
My plan for today was to create a card with a frame effect using the Berry Delightful 12″ x 12″ Designer Series Paper (DSP). This pack of 12 double-sided sheets is part of a bundle that you can get free this month with a qualifying order.
I began my project by choosing the background layer; a bright and cheerful blue plaid design. This pattern also prompted me to choose Night of Navy Card for my card base, and I set to work.
First, using my Paper Trimmer I cut and scored the Night of Navy Card. Then I folded it along the scored line and sharpened the crease with a Bone Folder.
After that I turned to the blue check DSP and cut a piece 4″ x 5-1/4″. Then using Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow) I fixed the DSP to the front of the card base.
Next I cut a 3/4″ x 4″ strip of paper and glued it along the top of a 4″ x 5-1/4″ layer of Whisper White Card. Once in place I attached the assembled layer to the inside of the card base.

Finally I cut a strip of DSP 2-1/4″ x 6″ and glued it to the flap of a Whisper White Medium Envelope. Then I trimmed off the excess with Paper Snips, using the edge of the flap as a guide.
So with the basics done I was ready to prepare the pieces for the ‘frame’. For this I went back to the Berry Delightful DSP and found a sheet covered with separate leaves, flowers and strawberry images. It occurred to me that these images might coordinate with the Strawberry Builder Punch and I wasn’t disappointed. So I carefully punched out three leaves and five small flowers and set them aside.
BERRY BLESSINGS
Now I needed to create the frame and sentiment layer using the Layering Ovals Dies. I chose the two largest plain-edged dies and nested them together on some Gold Foil Sheet. Then I ran it through my Mini Cut & Emboss Machine.
For the sentiment piece I only needed the largest of these two dies, using it to cut some Whisper White Card.
My sentiment was chosen from the exclusive Berry Blessings Stamp Set. This is the other part of the free Sale-A-Bration bundle. Using Night of Navy ink I stamped “you always have a way of making my day” in the centre of the white oval. Then using liquid glue I attached the gold die-cut frame onto the layer. Now all I needed to was assemble the various pieces.

Using Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals I first attached the sentiment frame to the card front. Then I took 6″ of Linen Thread and separated the three strands. I created some small loops from one strand and glued it to the bottom left section of the frame.
Turning to the punched leaves and flowers, I glued two leaves over the twine. This was followed by a blue flower, also attached with liquid glue. I finished off this arrangement with a blue and pink flower, each one held in place with a Mini Stampin’ Dimensional.
That left one just more leaf and two flowers for the smaller arrangement on the top right of the frame. For this I first used liquid glue to fix a leaf, and then a pink flower. The final blue flower was added with a Mini Stampin’ Dimensional and my project was complete.
I love the bright summery look of this project, and there’s not a berry in sight. For other project using the Berry Delightful DSP and other coordinating items see these earlier blog posts:
