Custom Drink Coasters And Napkins

December 16, 2018 Leave a Comment

Yesterday I created a bottle wrap to dress up a Christmas table.  Of course if there’s drinks, there’s glasses and they need coasters.  So today’s simple Sunday project is just that, a couple of drink coasters.

Custom drink coasters created using a sentiment from the Peaceful Poinsettia Stamp Set from Stampin' Up!

CUSTOMISED DRINK COASTERS

This project really is super simple.

I started with a large paper napkin (from IKEA) that came folded into four.  Between the bottom two layers of the folded napkin I placed a layer of Saran Wrap (cling film).  Then I ironed the napkin on the hottest setting.  This caused the Saran Wrap to melt and create a waterproof liner.  Make sure you don’t let your iron touch the Saran Wrap.

Next I stamped the sentiment from the Peaceful Poinsettia Stamp Set on the top of the napkin using StazOn Jet Black ink.  This ink is waterproof and so will not run when the coaster gets wet.

Finally I placed the napkin on my Big Shot and Magnetic Platform to cut out the coaster shapes.  From trial and error I have found that using a die with ‘stitching’ makes the layers stick together.  For this reason I chose the #4 (largest) oval and circle dies from the Stitched Shapes Framelits for my drink coasters.  I ran the napkin through the Big Shot and that was it.  Job done.

CUSTOM COASTERS AND NAPKINS

On these drink coasters I stamped just a sentiment, but you could stamp anything you want.  You can even stamp paper napkins to use as napkins and create a coordinated look on your table.  Just remember to use permanent ink, like StazOn, and not water-based inks like Memento or the Classic Stampin’ Pads also sold by Stampin’ Up!  Using water-based inks could result in your guests finishing the meal with very colourful faces!

Well that’s it for today.  I hope you’ll visit again tomorrow for another papercrafting project.

BUNDLE BONUS – The Peaceful Poinsettia Stamp Set used today is on the Stampin’ Up! Retiring List which means that it’s only available while stocks last.  Right now you can buy the stamp set by itself, or you can also get it as part of a bundle with the coordinating Detailed Poinsettia Thinlits Dies.  If you want both items you’ll save 10% if you order them using the special bundle item number.  The dies are also being retired so be aware that the bundle offer will end as soon as one of the items in the bundle sells out.  You’ll see I’ve included links to both options below in case you want to look at this further.
