One of the fun things about this time of year is the abundance of ‘holidays’. While I don’t really do Halloween, I love to decorate for autumn, Christmas and then winter. Often that includes a candle centrepiece and I’ve been experimenting with different ideas. Here’s one featuring velveteen holly leaves.

CANDLE COLLAR
Today’s project began with a plain white pillar candle roughly 2-3/4″ across and about 2-1/4″ to where the top starts to taper in.
First I needed to wrap the candle and I chose gold Brushed Metallic Cardstock for this. I cut a piece 2-1/8″ x 9″ then wrapped it around the candle. After overlapping the ends I secured them to each other with Tear & Tape Adhesive.
Next from the Poinsettia Place 12″ x 12″ Designer Series Paper (DSP) pack I chose the small leaf and white berry design. I cut a strip of the DSP 1-3/4″ x 9″ and wrapped it around the metallic cardstock before fixing the ends at the back with more Tear & Tape.
The candle already looked pretty but I wanted to add a sentiment and a little embellishment. So for that I turned to the Poinsettia Petals Stamp Set and coordinating Poinsettia Dies.
VELVETEEN HOLLY
First, using Soft Suede ink I stamped “May magic and wonder bloom this season” onto some Shimmery White Card. Then I cut it out using the #3 oval die from the Stitched Shapes Dies (counting from the smallest up). Finally with a couple of Stampin’ Dimensionals down the centre I attached the sentiment to the DSP collar.

That just left the holly leaf embellishment for me to do using the Poinsettia Petals Dies. The two sizes of holly leaves in the Poinsettia Dies set actually come in two parts. First there’s the outlines which coordinates with holly images in the Poinsettia Petals Stamp Set. Then there’s the insert pieces that add the embossed veins.
For my project today I decided that embossing on the Velveteen Paper would look awesome. I cut some Soft Sea Foam paper from the Color Velveteen Paper Pack then placed the outline die on the velvet side of the paper, nesting the embossing piece inside it. With that done I ran the paper through my machine.
In the end I cut and embossed three small holly leaves and one large one. To assemble I first attached the larger leaf and one of the smaller ones to the back of the sentiment with Stampin’ Dimensionals. Then the two remaining holly leaves were added to the front.
Finally I coloured some Pearl Basic Jewels using the brush tip of a light Cherry Cobbler Stampin’ Blends alcohol marker. After giving them a minute to dry I added the self-adhesive pearls to the holly leaves and my new decor piece was done.
I am in love with the Color Velveteen Paper! it looks lovely and has a soft brushed texture that is simply gorgeous. What’s more, a little goes a long way.
