Discovering Diamonds

July 6, 2019 Leave a Comment

Well today’s project is one of those “happened while I wasn’t paying attention” kind of things. There I was playing with some Mini Pizza Boxes and Woven Threads Designer Series Paper, with a vague thought about a masculine treat box. Before I knew it I’d been inspired to create diamonds for the accent using a punch and trimmer.

A SIMPLE START

The project began with the Mini Pizza Box. I decided to create a wrap for it using two 10″ strips of paper from the Woven Threads 12″ x 12″ Designer Series Paper pack. In the end I chose the multicoloured diamond pattern with a plain Terracotta Tile-coloured design on the reverse.

I cut one strip 2-1/2″ wide and wrapped it around the box with the diamond pattern hidden. Then I cut a second piece 2″ wide but this time wrapped it around the box with the diamonds showing. To ensure the wrap would slide on and off the box, I overlapped the ends to glue them together.

Then I turned to the Welcome To The Team Stamp Set and the “Congratulations on your promotion sentiment”. I stamped the sentiment onto a strip of Whisper White Card using Terracotta Tile ink. Then I set it aside while I tried to decide on a focal arrangement to anchor the sentiment.

DECIDING ON DIAMONDS

I tried various ideas but kept coming back to the striking diamond pattern in the DSP. I wondered if I’d be able to create something using diamonds, and the closest thing I had was the Tailored Tag Punch.

With a little trial and error I found it was possible to create nice diamond shapes using the punch and a trimmer. To make the explanation easier I decided to film my final solution.

So now you’ve seen the process I can tell you that on my box the lower diamond was cut from Terracotta Tile Card with the punched piece cut at 1″. The top layer was cut from Seaside Spray Card with the punched piece cut at 3/4″. Once cut, I attached the diamonds to each other using Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow).

All I had left to do was placed some looped Linen Thread on top of the box. Then I used Stampin’ Dimensionals to attach the layered diamonds over the thread and then add the sentiment on top. Job done.

Now that I’ve worked out how to create these diamonds, I have a few other ideas for using them. I’ll be sure to post the resulting projects when they’re done.

You’ll find another project I created using the Welcome To The Team Stamp Set in my previous blog post Get me a comfy chair.
