Do you enjoy watching movies? I do, even though I don’t often get to see them on the big screen. In fact I think the last few times I been to a cinema it’s been in the UK with one or more granddaughters. I like spotting popular movie references, like recently when my doctor explained the potential sides affects of abruptly stopping a new medication with the words “you might see dead people”! Today’s project features another movie reference using the Mini Alphabet Dies and Waterside Retreat Designer Series Paper (DSP).

This design has been in my head for a long time, ever since I saw the seagulls pattern. I started by cutting a 3-1/4″ x 7″ piece of Misty Moonlight Card. With the long side at the top I scored it at 3-1/4″ and 3-3/4″, then folded it along the scored lines and sharpened the creases with a Bone Folder. Then I wrapped the card over the top of a 3″ x 3″ sticky notes pad and glued the bottom of the pad in place. Finally I cut a 3-1/2″ x 3-1/2″ piece of Gray Granite Card and glued the covered pad onto the centre.

Next I cut a piece of the seagull patterned paper using the largest square from the Stylish Shapes Dies. Then I glued that onto the centre of a 2-7/8″ x 2-7/8″ layer of Gray Granite Card and set it aside.

HANDY ALPHABET TIP

All I needed now was my sentiment and that’s when I pulled out the Mini Alphabet Dies. First, using the largest die in the set I cut the letters from Misty Moonlight Card. Then I found the punctuation dies and cut the exclamation mark from Misty Moonlight as well. So far so good. Of course as usual I’d forgotten to put adhesive sheet on the back but that wasn’t going to be a huge issue today.

I gently laid the die-cut pieces I needed on top of the seagull paper and adjusted them until they were exactly where I wanted them. However I was a little worried that as I took one piece to add glue to the back I might nudge the others. So instead of dealing with them up individually I had a better idea. I took a large full-adhesive Post-It® note and pressed it onto the bottom half of all the die-cut pieces. Then when I peeled the Post-It off the DSP it picked everything up, including that pesky dot for the exclamation mark.

After turning over the Post-It Note I simply added a little liquid glue to the back of every piece. Then I flipped it back over. Now, using the tops of the die-cut pieces as my guide I was able to put everything back exactly where I wanted it. Once I’d rubbed over the Post-It note to make sure the pieces would be properly stuck to the seagull paper I carefully lifted it off.

Finally I added the assembled layer to the covered sticky notes pad with Stampin’ Dimensionals and my project was complete.
