Hydrangea Hill For A Special Project

February 13, 2021 Leave a Comment

Sometimes the simplest looking projects are also the most satisfying. I’ve been playing a lot with the Hydrangea Hill Designer Series Paper (DSP) recently and really enjoying it. The images and colours are restful and it’s difficult not to make something pretty with it. Today all I needed was a single strip and a little imagination to create this gorgeous textured bookmark.

Simple textured bookmark created using the Berry Blessings Stamp Set and Hydrangea Hill paper from Stampin' Up! #papercraftwithme

HYDRANGEA HILL

Unusually this bookmark didn’t start with the base, it started with the paper. One of the patterns in the Hydrangea Hill 12″ x 12″ DSP is a sheet with a border of large hydrangea images along the top and bottom. The centre is a delicate Seaside Spray blue and I used some of that on a gift tag a couple of days ago. Today I cut a 1-7/8″ x 5-1/2″ strip of the DSP including both the hydrangea border and some of the empty space above.

Next I chose my sentiment from the free Berry Blessings Stamp Set (more about that at the end). Using Night of Navy ink I stamped “you always have a way of making my day” above the flowers. Then I placed the DSP into the Subtle 3D Embossing Folder and ran it through my Cut & Emboss Machine.

The resulting texture on the DSP is gorgeous but it does weaken the paper a little so now I needed a bookmark base to support it.

FINISHING TOUCHES

This bookmark is all about the flowers and the sentiment so I wanted to keep the rest of the design very simple.

For my bookmark base I chose coordinating Seaside Spray Card. First I cut a 2″ x 5-1/2″ strip. Then using Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow) I fixed the embossed DSP down the centre. To turn the strip into a bookmark I punched an oval hole at the top using the Detailed Trio Punch.

Next I threaded some Seaside Spray 1/4″ Metallic Ribbon through the hole. To secure the ribbon I used some Night of Navy Twine from the Well Suited Twine Combo Pack. Wrapping the twine around the ribbon close to the bookmark I just had to tie a simple bow and my project was complete.

I really love how this project turned out. The patterned paper was already gorgeous but the embossed texture really elevated it into something quite special. What do you think?
