Have you ever looked at a stamp set and thought “what on earth is that?” If you’ve done that recently I wonder if it was while looking at the Beautiful Blizzard Stamp Set. It’s a really simple set with 5 lovely greetings and some snow and snowflake images. Then there’s two images that I can only describe as ‘splats’. So for today’s simple Sunday project I thought I show you one of those splats in action.
My project actually began with a piece of Thick Whisper White Card that I cut and scored using my Stampin’ Trimmer. I folded the card along the scored line and sharpened the crease to create a card base. Then using Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow) I attached a layer of Smoky Slate Card to the front.
SPLAT!
Next I used Smoky Slate ink to stamp the large ‘splat’ image towards the bottom of a layer of Whisper White Card. Then right on top I stamped the snowflake sentiment using Memento Tuxedo Black ink.
TIP – Always test your images on scrap paper before stamping on your project. If you find your ink pad is a bit juicy and the image too dark, you could use a Sponge Dauber to put the ink onto the stamp. This gives a much softer look.
FLURRIES
To finish the front I wanted to pick up on the snowflake theme but in very subtle way. To do this I used a dry Aqua Painter to paint a piece of Whisper White Card with Frost White Shimmer Paint and set it aside. Then while I was waiting for the Shimmer Paint to dry I decided to get on with the inside of the card and the envelope.
Using the same large ‘splat’ image and Smoky Slate ink, I stamped across the top left and bottom right corners of a layer of Whisper White Card. This piece was then fixed inside the card base with liquid glue.
After that I repeated the same stamping across the front of a Whisper White Medium Envelope.
SNOWFLAKE TOUCHES
Finally now the Shimmer Paint was dry I covered the back of the piece with some Multipurpose Adhesive Sheet. Then I used my Big Shot and Magnetic Platform to cut out the layer using the Blizzard Thinlits Die.
With that done I chose a few of the different snowflakes and attached them across the top right corner of the sentiment layer.
Finally I trimmed off the excess part of each snowflake with Paper Snips, before using liquid glue to mount the completed layer to the front of the card.
Simple grey and white but with delicate touches of shimmer make for a lovely ‘thinking of you’ type card. What do you think?
