Well December started off very well for me. I was one of 20 vendors at the Christmas Craft Fair held at the Fundy Geological Museum in Parrsboro, Nova Scotia. I love meeting new people who have not seen my projects made using Stampin’ Up! products. It was lovely too to reconnect with people who return to my table and buy from me year after year.
Something that was really popular at the fair yesterday were my large gift tags. In fact I only have maybe half a dozen left. So this morning I thought I’d better get started stocking up again.
IN THE WOODS
Today I decided to use the Winter Woods Stamp Set to create a tree-shaped gift tag.
Starting with Shaded Spruce ink I stamped the large fir tree onto Thick Whisper White Card. Then without reinking the rubber I stamped it again to give me a lighter version of the same image.
Next I needed to cut out the two trees and for that pulled out the coordinating In The Woods Framelits Dies. Using my Big Shot and Magnetic Platform I cut out the darker tree using the outline die for the fir tree.
Then I cut out the lighter image using the smaller fir tree die. This die is smaller that the tree image but it not only cuts a tree shape, but also some little pieces inside the shape that can be popped up.
Starting at the bottom of the lighter tree I gently pushed up the little cut pieces, working my way up to the top. Once that was done I put a little Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow) on the back of the piece, taking care to avoid the popped up sections. Then I fixed the lighter tree on top of the darker one. Now if you look ‘under’ the popped up branches you see darker branches underneath rather than a stark white area.
TRIM THE TREE
When thinking about how to trim the tree I wanted to be able to keep the branches lifted. In the end I pulled out the Metallics Sequin Assortment and a box of Mini Glue Dots.
Using the tip of my Paper Piercing Tool to help me, I placed a Mini Glue Dot on the back of the largest sequin. Then I attached it to the tag, tucking the edge of the sequin just under the edge of a branch.
To add a little variety I also used some of the smallest sequins from the assortment. For this though I used one Mini Glue Dot to hold a small and large sequin at the same time. That meant I wasn’t fussing with all the excess glue dot not covered by the tiny sequin.
I continued adding silver, iridescent and gold sequins randomly over the piece until my tree was suitably decked out for Christmas.
FINAL TOUCHES
To add just a little more sparkle I used a Wink of Stella Clear Glitter Brush to ‘paint’ some of the branches.
All that was left was to punch a hole at the top of the tree using the Handheld 1/8″ Circle Punch. Then I threaded a length of Whisper White Baker’s Twine through the hole and tied it in a simple knot.
In no time at all the tag was completed. I love the way that the sequins seem to light up as the tag moves, and all without the aid of batteries. I hope you like it.
BUNDLE BONUS – I purchased the Winter Woods Stamp Set and coordinating In The Woods Framelits Dies using a single bundle item number. That meant that I saved 10% off the cost of buying the same two items separately. You should be aware that this bundle offer ends on January 2nd at the end of the Stampin’ Up! 2018 Holiday Catalogue period. This is true even if the individual items remain available for purchase after that time. You’ll see that I’ve included links to the bundles and the separate items in the list below so you can explore the options currently available.
