Well it’s been an eventful 36 hours. First, a winter storm that has left the driveway coated in very thick layers of ice and snow. Not a good situation when said driveway is also on a hill. Then yesterday evening our two 11 month-old granddaughters needed checking out at the hospital after almost two days of vomiting. They’re both now on medication and hopefully on the mend. So after staying up until I knew they were all safely home I slept in. Hopefully my late project was worth waiting for.

TROPICAL LAYERS
When I finally got up this morning my plan was to create a card with layers of leaves. I’ve just recently got the Artfully Layered Stamp Set and coordinating Tropical Layers Dies and wanted to try them out.
So I began with the leafy outline of the fat leaf and some Granny Apple Green Card. After attaching some Adhesive Sheet to the card I cut out the leaf using my Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine.
Then I started thinking about a darker green as a contrast. Despite my best efforts I simply I couldn’t resist Evening Evergreen. And that’s when my original plans went out the window.
I just loved the simplicity of that single leaf against the dark card and decided to leave it at that. I’d still have layers, but they’d be more of a background feature.
So next I cut a 3″ x 3″ piece of the Evening Evergreen Card. Then to add some interest I embossed it using the Tasteful Textiles 3D Embossing Folder. Now I could peel the protective backing off the adhesive on the leaf and attach it to the embossed layer.
With that done I used Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow) to attach it to a 3-1/8″ x 3-1/8″ piece of Very Vanilla Card. Then these two layers were glued to a 3-3/8″ x 3-3/8″ layer of Granny Apple Green Card.
SIMPLE TOUCHES
For my card base I went back to the Evening Evergreen Card for my card base. After using my Paper Trimmer to cut and score the card, I folded it along the scored line and sharpened the crease with a Bone Folder. Then using Stampin’ Dimensionals I attached the assembled layers to the front.

All I needed to do now was a little stamping using the Artfully Layered Stamp Set and Evening Evergreen ink.
First I took the large fat leaf image and stamped it in the top left and bottom right corners on a 4″ x 5-1/4″ piece of Very Vanilla Card. Then using liquid glue I fixed the Very Vanilla layer inside the card base. I liked the effect of the leaves and so I did the same thing on the flap of a Very Vanilla Medium Envelope.

That just left the sentiment to do. So, going back to the stamp set I chose the simple “thank you” and stamped it onto a scrap of Very Vanilla Card.
Next, rather than leaving the sentiment with straight edges I cut around it using my Paper Snips. Then, after using pieces of Stampin’ Dimensionals to mount it over the die-cut leaf, my project was complete.
This definitely wasn’t what I had in mind when I sat down this morning but I love the simplicity of this card. What do you think?
