You’ll find lots of examples in my projects of how I add colour to my stamped images. Yesterday I used ink and an Aqua Painter, the day before that I used Stampin’ Blends alcohol markers. So today I want to show you a simple project I created using the marker to stamp technique.
MARKER TO STAMP TECHNIQUE
The marker to stamp technique really speaks for itself and couldn’t be simpler. Using the brush tip of Stampin’ Write Makers colour directly onto the surface of the stamp, breathe on the ink to remoisten it, then stamp onto your project.
Note that this technique does not work with alcohol markers like Stampin’ Blends as the ink dries too quickly.
HEDGEHUGS
My project began with a strip of Whisper White Card and the toadstool image from the Hedgehugs Stamp Set. I coloured on the stamp with Poppy Parade, Gray Granite and Granny Apple Green Stampin’ Write Markers then stamped the image.
Next I took the bird and branch image and coloured the rubber using Merry Merlot, Crumb Cake and Granny Apple Green markers, and stamped that image.
I cut a separate layer of card to line the inside of my card base and used Soft Suede ink to stamp the walking hedgehog image in the bottom left corner. I also stamped the same image in the bottom left on the front of a Whisper White Medium Envelope.
Finally, also using a Soft Suede ink pad, I stamped the ‘Sending hedgehugs your way’ sentiment onto a scrap of Whisper White Card. I could also have coloured the sentiment using a Soft Suede Stampin’ Write Marker and stamped it that way.
FINAL PREPARATIONS
The sentiment is rather small and delicate so I felt it needed a little something extra to make it stand out. So I cut it out with the #1 (smallest) circle die from the Stitched Shapes Framelits using my Big Shot and Magnetic Platform. I also cut out a piece of Granny Apple Green Card using the circular die from the Stitched Labels Framelits. This would make an interesting mat layer for the sentiment.
For my card base I used my Stampin’ Trimmer to cut and score a piece of Thick Whisper White Card. I folded it along the scored line and sharpened the crease with a Bone Folder.
I was now ready to put it all together.
SIMPLE LAYERS
Using Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow) I fixed the Whisper White piece with the hedgehog to the inside of the card base.
Next, with liquid glue, I attached the bird and toadstool layer to a layer of Granny Apple Green Card, and then fixed it to the front of the card base.
All that was left was for me to attach the sentiment to the Granny Apple Green circle with liquid glue, then add it to the front of the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
I love the simple but colourful effect that can be achieved with the stamp to marker technique. It’s a great option for adding colour and interest to detailed stamp images like these. What do you think?
BUNDLE BONUS – The Stitched Labels Framelits used to cut out the mat for under the sentiment can be bought by itself, or you can buy it as part of a bundle with the coordinating Stitched All Around Stamp Set. Buying items as a bundle using a single bundle item number will save you 10% off the cost of buying the same items separately, so although I didn’t use the stamp set today you’ll find links to both options in the product list below.
