And still it rains! An abundance of water and warm temperatures has us in a cycle of foggy mornings and humid days. It’s great to see the plants flourishing, but it would be nice to be able to enjoy the garden from the other side of the window! Meanwhile it’s the perfect excuse for me to stay in and craft. Today’s project is a gender-neutral card with texture courtesy of the Metal Plate 3D Embossing Folder. However using the ‘debossed’ side gives a ‘fish scale’ look to this simple layout.

METAL PLATE IN REVERSE
I began with a couple of 4″ x 5-1/4″ pieces of Very Vanilla Card and a Pecan Pie ink pad. My brand new ink pad is very juicy so after gently swirling the brush over the surface of the pad I brushed off some of the excess ink on scrap paper. Then I covered one of the pieces of cardstock with a light layer of ink using a circular motion. This resulted in lighter and darker areas which I loved.
On the second piece of Very Vanilla Card I added the ink just around the edges. Then I covered the flap of a Very Vanilla Medium Envelope with ink using the same technigue.
For my card base I chose Early Espresso Card. After cutting and scoring the card I folded it along the scored line and sharpened the crease with a Bone Folder. Then I fixed the partially inked piece of Very Vanilla Card to the inside using Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow).
Turning to the fully inked layer of Very Vanilla Card I had a dilemma. While I liked the custom inked background I wanted to add a little more interest. That’s when I turned to the Metal Plate Embossing Folder. I placed the card into the folder so that the inked side was face down on the rougher side of the folder. Then I simply ran it through my Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine as normal. This left the inked side of the card with the ‘stars’ of the Metal Plate design pressed into the surface rather than raised up.
From there I wrapped some Linen Thread three times around the embossed layer and secured it on the back using Tear & Tape Adhesive. Then I simply mounted it onto the card base with liquid glue.
HOLY SMOKES
The inky effect of the background really reminded me of smoke which made me think of a sentiment in the He’s All That Stamp Set. So I stamped “Holy smokes you’re amazing” onto a scrap of Very Vanilla Card using Early Espresso ink.

Next I pulled out the All That Dies and cut out the sentiment using the perfectly-sized oval die from the set. This was followed by die-cutting the ‘rectangular’ piece with fancy corners from some Early Espresso Card.
Now all I had to do was mount the sentiment onto the larger die-cut piece using liquid glue. Then I added two of the larger Rustic Metallic Adhesive-backed Dots either side of the oval. Finally I attached the assembled sentiment to the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals and my project was complete.
