While not everyone has the luxury of staying safe at home right now, many people have found they have extra time on their hands. Closets are being sorted and cupboards tidied, at least in my house. So it was inevitable that I’d come across some large biscuit tins that I’d saved “in case I needed them”. It also occurred to me that this ‘spare’ time means there’ll be no excuses for not having cards and other Christmas projects done in plenty of time. So having put those two ideas together I created a simple Christmas storage tin.

FROM BLACK TO PLAID
This particular biscuit tin was a plain black, with the contents etc on sticky labels which were a cinch to remove. So now I had a blank canvas on which to work.
I went looking for a simple paper design and found a green plaid in the Country Club 12″ x 12″ Designer Series Paper Pack (DSP). It’s a combination of Basic Black, Garden Green and Whisper White so that became my colour scheme.
I measured the top of the tin and made my Garden Green Card layer 1/2″ smaller. Then I cut the DSP 1/4″ smaller than the card.
Before going any further I decided to round the corners of the card and DSP using the Detailed Trio Punch. This would mimic the shape of the biscuit tin lid. Then using Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow) I mounted the DSP onto the card, then glued the layers onto the lid.
Next I measured the sides of the tin and cut card and DSP using the same technique (card 1/2″ smaller with the DSP 1/4″ smaller than the card). Once again I glued the DSP to the card, then I attached the assembled layers to the sides of the tin.
MERRY CHRISTMAS
For my Merry Christmas sentiment I chose the retiring Merry Christmas Dies and Real Red Card. After cutting the pieces I added them to the top of the tin with liquid glue.

To finish I wrapped some Whisper White 5/8″ Polka Dot Tulle Ribbon around the lid and tied it in a bow. One quick and easy project.
Now all I have to do is fill it with Christmas cards ready for mailing later in the year. In fact I have another one of those tins in my studio. Maybe I should decorate that and fill it with cards for other occasions?
