After yesterday’s #simplestamping project featuring the llama from the Zany Zoo Stamp Set I was inspired to make a project featuring another animal. This time I reached for the Playing In The Rain Stamp Set and the coordinating dies. I decided to create my own ‘scene’ including texture from the Crosshatch embossing folder (part of the Basics 3D Embossing Folders pack). Then there’s some simple layers using torn and inked card. By the time I was done I had this sweet thank you card with a tortoise among some flowers.

BACKGROUND TEXTURES
I first needed to create the background and cut a 3-3/4″ x 5″ piece of Very Vanilla Card. Then from the Basics 3D Embossing Folders pack I chose the crosshatch folder and embossed the card. Next, using a Blending Brush I added a light layer of Starry Sky ink which also brought out the embossed details. With that done I mounted the embossed layer onto a 4″ x 5-1/4″ piece of Very Vanilla Card using Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow).
Now I needed a 2″ x 3-3/4″ piece of Lemon Lime Twist Card for my grassy area. However, instead of cutting the card in a curve down its length I simply tore it. Then I placed the two pieces on my desk so I was looking the rough side of the torn edges. To accentuate these rough edges I added some Shaded Spruce ink with a Blending Brush . Finally I glued the two pieces at the bottom of the embossed layer.
For my A2 card base I used my Paper Trimmer to cut and score some Pebbled Path Card. After folding it long the scored line I sharpened the crease with a Bone Folder.
With a dark card base I would need a light coloured liner so I cut a 4″ x 5-1/4″ piece of Very Vanilla Card. Then from the Playing In The Rain Stamp Set I chose the flowers stamp. Using Pebbled Path ink I stamped the image in the bottom right-hand corner of the card layer. I also stamped it in the bottom right-hand corner on the front of a Very Vanilla Medium Envelope. Then I set these aside while I stamped the pieces for the card front.
PLAYING WITH STAMPS & DIES
On the front of the card I wanted to create a little flower meadow so I stamped the same floral image twice onto some scraps of Very Vanilla Card. Then I stamped the tortoise image from the Playing In The Rain Stamp Set using Pebbled Path ink as well.
To colour all the stamped images I chose Stampin’ Blends alcohol markers. On the flower petals I used dark Daffodil Delight, with light Shaded Spruce on the leaves. For the flower centres I decided on the Light combo pen SU900 from the Natural Tones Stampin’ Blends collection. Once the flowers were coloured I glued the 4″ x 5-1/4″ Very Vanilla layer inside the card base.
Turning to the tortoise I used the SU900 for the ‘arms’, legs and head. For the plates on the shell I used light and dark Pebbled Path, before switching to light and dark Gray Granite on the the rest of the tortoise’s shell.

With the images complete I cut them using the coordinating dies from the Playing In The Rain Dies set. Then I glued the two sets of flowers onto the grassy area of the background layer. After that I added the tortosise to the scene with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
That only left the sentiment to do and I chose “Thank you so much” from the Layering Leaves Stamp Set and the Pebbled Path ink pad. Then I used the smaller of the two ‘oval’ shapes from the Something Fancy Dies set to cut it out, Finally I attached the sentiment to the top of the scene layer with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
To finish I used more Stampin’ Dimensionals to mount the assembled scene onto the card base and my thank you card was complete.
