Positive Thoughts For A Simple Sunday

February 16, 2020 6 Comments

While I love all the card making techniques I’ve learned over the years, there’s something quite satisfying about getting back to basics. So every Sunday I like to bring you a simple project that any one can do. This week I have a card created using the Positive Thoughts Stamp Set.

Create this simple card with feather image and "Friends like you mean more every year" sentiment using the Positive Thoughts Stamp Set from Stampin' Up! #simplestamping #papercraftwithme

POSITIVE THOUGHTS AND IMAGES

I began with the “Friends like you mean more every year” sentiment, stamping it onto a piece of Whisper White Card using Soft Suede ink.

Next I inked up the feather image with Bermuda Bay ink using Sponge Daubers. To do this I tapped a dauber onto the Bermuda Bay ink pad then tapped it onto the stamp rubber. Then I changed to a different dauber and tapped a little Pretty Peacock ink around the bottom and edge of the feather. With that done I breathed onto the stamp surface to re-moisten the ink before stamping the image above the sentiment.

Using the Sponge Daubers to put the ink on the stamp creates a soft look and allows the two colours to blend beautifully. If you’ve not done this technique before do a few practice stamps on scrap paper first.

I loved the look of the feather and chose that for my coordinating feature for this project. So repeating the same process I stamped it in the centre of the flap on a Whisper White Medium Envelope. Then I did the same thing in the centre of a layer of Whisper White Card.

SIMPLE LAYERS

Now the stamping was complete it was time to cut some layers and put everything together.

I started by using my Paper Trimmer to cut and score a piece of Thick Whisper White Card. Then I folded it along the scored line and sharpened the crease with a Bone Folder to create my card base. Finally , using Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow) I fixed the layer with just the feather on the inside. That just left the front of the card to do.

First I cut some Soft Suede Card and mounted the sentiment piece to it with liquid glue. Then I mounted the layers onto some Bermuda Bay Card, before adding the assembled piece to my card front. In no time at all my project was complete.

I must be honest and admit that I wasn’t excited by the Positive Thoughts Stamp Set when I first saw it. However it’s becoming a firm favourite with its delicate images and gorgeous sentiments.

Whatever you have planned for today, I hope you’re able to find a little time for yourself.
