Putting Away Picture Perfect Birthday

April 19, 2019 2 Comments

This morning’s project had started out with an idea for a very elaborate gift tag with lots of layers. But as so often happens, that’s not what I ended up with. Instead my Picture Perfect Birthday tag was much more minimalist, but I love it just the same.

Large oval happy birthday gift tag in Berry Burst and Very Vanilla created using a sentiment from the Picture Perfect Birthday Stamp Set all products from Stampin' Up!

SIMPLE COLOURS

I began my gift tag with the #3 and #4 ovals dies from the Stitched Shapes Dies (the two largest). Using my retiring Big Shot I cut a piece of the retiring Berry Burst Card using the #4 oval die. Then I cut two of the #3 oval from Very Vanilla Card.

FYI – With the move away from Sizzix as a supplier for dies and embossing folders, Stampin’ Up! can now have a simpler naming process. So no more Framelits, Thinlits and Edgelits (which a lot of people never understood anyway) – they’re just dies. Similarly, no more Textured Impressions Embossing Folders, they’re just embossing folders, with the Dynamic ones simply identified as 3D embossing folders.

Once the die-cutting was done, I punched a hole at the top of each piece using the oval hole option on the Detailed Trio Punch. Then with Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow) I attached a Very Vanilla piece to each side of the Berry Burst oval, lining up the holes.

Next I used retiring Berry Burst ink to stamp the Happy Birthday sentiment from the retiring Picture Perfect Birthday Stamp Set, onto one of the Very Vanilla pieces.

MINIMAL EMBELLISHMENT

After that I threaded some retiring Very Vanilla Baker’s twine through the hole in the tag and tied it in a simple knot. Then I tied a bow using the retiring Berry Burst 3/8″ Metallic-Edge Ribbon and attached it at the top of the tag with a Mini Glue Dot.

Finally I added three Rhinestone Basic Jewels in a line at the bottom of the tag and I was done.

There’s something about the contrast between the two colours and the simplicity of the decoration that gives this tag a really elegant feel. I could see this design working just as well with different sentiments and/or replacing the Berry Burst with another bold colour. What do you think?
