When I started making cards I didn’t understand why people added layers. It really seemed like an unnecessary cost. But as time passed I realised even the simplest layers added interest. That’s why I love Stampin’ Up!s commitment to colour coordination, it makes everything much easier. For example, when designing this card using the Rhino Ready Stamp Set I found a simple background design to match the ink colour. So if you’re looking for 2023-2025 In Color backgrounds, check out the Fresh As A Daisy Designer Series Paper (DSP) pack.

QUICK RHINO
This gender neutral birthday card was one I made during my recent ’24 cards in 24 hours’ marathon. I decided right away that the sitting rhino from the Rhino Ready Stamp Set would be my coordinating feature.
I began by cutting two pieces of Basic White Card, one 4″ x 5-1/4″ and the other 3-1/4″ x 4-1/2″. Then in the bottom right-hand corner of each I stamped the rhino using Pebbled Path ink. I also stamped him on the front of a Basic White Medium Envelope.
To colour the rhinos I kept it really simple, using just the light and dark Pebbled Path Stampin’ Blends alcohol markers. Then I scribbled some light Pebbled Path beneath each rhino so they no longer looked like they were floating in midair.
TIP: Stampin’ Blends are designed to saturate the card/paper, so before colouring on my envelope I slipped a piece of scrap paper inside it. That way the excess ink is caught on the scrap paper rather than leaking through to the back.
With the colouring complete I chose the “happy birthday” sentiment from the Curved Occasions Stamp Set. Then using Pebbled Path ink I stamped it over the head of the rhino on the smaller Basic White layer.
FINISHING TOUCHES
For my A2 card base I used my Paper Trimmer to cut and score some Pebbled Path Card. Then I folded it along the scored line and sharpened the crease with a Bone Folder.
Next, from the Fresh As A Daisy 12″ x 12″ DSP pack I found the sheet with the abstract brushstroke pattern in Pebbled Path. I cut a 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ piece and using Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow) covered the front of my card base. On the inside of the card I then glued the larger of the two Basic White layers.

That just left the smaller piece with the sentiment.
So next I cut a 3-3/8″ x 4-5/8″ piece of Basic Black Card and glued the sentiment layer on top. Then I cut some White 3/8″ Glittered Organdy Ribbon and wrapped it around the assembled layers 3/16″ from the left-hand edge. After securing the ribbon on the back with Tear & Tape Adhesive I added the layers to the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals and my card was complete.
Even if you can’t see yourself using all the floral patterns in the Fresh As A Daisy DSP pack, if you’re a fan of the 2023-2025 In Colors it’s well worth a second look for the simpler designs on the back of each sheet.
