When people think of owls, particularly at this time of year, many often think of Halloween. I suppose they can be quite spooky with their silent flight and subsequent sudden appearance. But for me when I think of owls I’m more likely to think of Hedwig from the Harry Potter series of books. My regular followers will know that I love reading, so I suppose it was only a matter of time before I made an owl-themed bookmark.

OWLS IN FLIGHT
This project happened by accident as I was flicking through some packs of patterned paper looking for inspiration. I was easily drawn to the Blackberry Beauty 12″ x 12″ Designer Series Paper (DSP) Pack. With its rich purples and gold foil accents there’s something very special about this paper. Then I saw the sheet with the owls and realised they were perfectly placed when I cut a simple 2″ x 5-1/2″ strip.
To add some strength to the bookmark I next cut a 2″ x 5-1/2″ piece of Rich Razzleberry Card. Then I fixed the two pieces together using Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow).
Next I shaped the top and added a ribbon slot in one go using the Fancy Tag Topper Punch.
Then to coordinate with the gold foil accents on the paper I threaded some Gold 3/8″ Shimmer Ribbon through the slot. Finally using Linen Thread I tied a small bow around the ribbon close to the slot and my bookmark was done.
This has to be one of the quickest bookmarks I’ve made in a long time and possibly one of the fanciest. It just goes to show that inspiration could just be a pack of paper away.
