I started my sneak peeks on Wednesday with a project using the Rustic Crate Stamp Set. I mentioned at the time that there were coordinating dies and I used these and the stamp set to create today’s project. I’ll be honest and say that like many of you I assumed that the dies would include the ability to make a crate. Well they do, sort of. You see the two main dies are designed to fit together to create a little pocket that gives the illusion of a 3D crate.

PRETTY POINSETTTIAS
If you’ve been following me for some time you’ll know that I’m a sucker for pretty poinsettia images. So I began by stamping them twice onto Basic White Card with Cherry Cobbler ink. Then I coloured them in using Stampin’ Blends alcohol markers.
For the leaves I chose light and dark Shaded Spruce, with dark Daffodil Delight in the centre of the ‘flowers’. Then for the poinsettia ‘petals’ (bracts) I used light and dark Real Red. With that done I cut out one of the images using the coordinating die from the Rustic Crate Dies set. From the other image I used my Paper Snips to fussy cut just the ‘top’ flower. Finally I attached the single flower on top of the die-cut one with Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals.
Next I took the “for you” sentiment and stamped it onto some Basic White Card with Copper Clay ink. This just fits on the small solid label included in the dies. As the die cuts both the label and frame, I decided to reverse them and glued the frame part to the back of the label.
RUSTIC CRATE DIES
Now I just needed the ‘crate’ itself.

Using the two main dies I cut out some Copper Clay Card. Then I used a Blending Brush to add some Copper Clay ink over the surface of the two pieces. This added depth to the card and brought out the wood embossing on the smaller piece.
To assemble the ‘crate’ I placed the solid piece face up on the table with the two slats on the right. Next I folded the tabs up and in. Note that the vertical scored line on the largest die cut piece is to create the 3D illusion and is not actually a fold line. With the other tabs folded over I put a little liquid glue on what was now the top of the tabs. Then I simply placed the smaller wood embossed piece on top and pressed them firmly together.

To turn this little crate into a gift tag I cut 7″ of gold cord from the Simply Elegant Trim pack. I threaded the cord through the slot at the ‘back’ of the crate, and between the slats on the right-hand side. Then I tied it in a simple knot.
Finally I attached the layered poinsettias with a few Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals before adding the “for you” label with liquid glue. With that my pretty gift tag was complete.
There’s no doubt that the crate is cute, and in addition to those in the Rustic Crate Stamp Set I have lots of other stamp images that would work well with it. As well as cutting out the four images in the Rustic Crate Stamp Set, the dies also include pieces to add a handle, label, brackets/slats, hands and the word “hello”.
Here’s the complete Rustic Crate Dies set.

You’ll find my sneak peek of the coordinating stamp set in my earlier blog post Rustic Crate first peek.
Please join me again tomorrow for a card using another new Designer Series Paper (DSP) pack.

Hi Tracy,
Thank you for doing a project with these dies and explaining them. My question is will it hold a flat Giaradelli candy square?
Thank you and have a great day.
The short answer is yes the Ghirardelli chocolate square will fit in the ‘crate’, but only about the bottom 1/4″. So my experience is that the chocolate will fall out as soon as the ‘crate’ is moved.
