This week the What Will You Stamp? challenge is WWYS192 Seasonal Chums. This is such a cute stamp set with a snowman, pumpkin and deer plus 5 sentiments. The images feature a back and front view and are designed to be used as folded gift tags, and this is made really easy with the coordinating Seasonal Tags Framelits Dies. Simply stamp once, cut once, then fold.
Of course as part of the What Will You Stamp? Design Team I wanted to create something other than a tag. So I designed a card that still allowed both sides of the image to be seen.
SEASONAL CHUMS
As you might expect, this project started with the snowman from the Seasonal Chums Stamp Set. It was stamped onto Thick Whisper White Card using Memento Tuxedo Black ink, then cut out using the coordinating die. Next I folded the die-cut piece making sure to line up the sides and the bottom. Finally I used Paper Snips to cut around the top of the hat to separate the two sides and make them exactly the same.
Now that I had the back and the front I could colour them using Stampin’ Blends alcohol markers. I used the light and dark combos in Night of Navy, Pool Party, Old Olive, Pumpkin Pie, Poppy Parade, Calypso Coral and Crumb Cake. Then I set the pieces aside while I got to work on the card base.
WINDOW CARD
I began but cutting and scoring a piece of Thick Whisper White Card and folding it along the scored line. Next I cut a layer of Whisper White Card 1/4″ smaller than the card front. Then I used a tiny bit of adhesive in the centre of the layer to attach it (temporarily) behind the front half of the card base.
I put the card onto my Magnetic Platform with the extra layer underneath and placed the #6 plain-edge die from the Layering Ovals Framelits on top. I checked that the die was centred and then added a cutting pad and ran it through my Big Shot. As I expected, the die cut completely through the card base but not the layer underneath.
I removed the extra layer from the card base and placed it back onto the Magnetic Platform. Then I used the marks left by the die on the card to put the die back in exactly the same place. I could then run that through the Big Shot to cut the oval from this layer.
Finally I used the larger #8 plain-edge oval die to cut out a piece of Window Sheet.
ADDING THE SNOWMAN
Using Tear & Tape Adhesive and Mini Glue Dots I fixed the front of the snowman to the front of the oval window sheet. Next I fixed the window sheet behind the oval hole in the front of the card base. Then I attached the back of the snowman to the window sheet, carefully lining him up with the front half. Finally I attached the separate Whisper White layer over the top to neaten everything up.
SPARKLING SNOWFLAKES
With the window complete I could now start on the additional embellishments. For that I pulled out my limited edition Snowfall Thinlits Dies and Silver Glimmer Paper.
Before I cut the Glimmer Paper I actually remembered to attach it to some Multipurpose Adhesive Sheet. This would make fixing the delicate die-cut pieces so much easier.
I placed the stunning snowflake flourish die on the silver side of the Glimmer Paper and ran it through the Big Shot. Then I removed the backing paper from the adhesive sheet and attached the piece to the front of the card base. The placement of the flourish meant that when the card was opened I could see the back of the die-cut. I wasn’t worried though, I had a plan…
Going back to my Big Shot I placed some Silver Glimmer Paper silver side down and then placed the snowflake flourish die on top. I ran this piece through the Big Shot as normal but the shape that came out was reversed. I removed the backing paper from the adhesive and fixed the piece to the inside of the card, making sure to line it up over the visible parts of the other flourish
Finally I cut one more flourish piece and added that to the bottom of the card front and trimmed it with my Paper Snips.
FINISHING TOUCHES
I found the perfect sentiment for my card in the limited edition Snow is Glistening Stamp Set. It’s quite a fancy script so I decided to keep it simple and stamp it onto a layer of Whisper White Card using Memento Tuxedo Black ink. There was just enough room to fit it in the bottom right corner so it wouldn’t show through the window when the card was closed.
Finally I used another die from the Snowfall Thinlits to cut a single snowflake from the Silver Glimmer Paper. Once I’d fixed that to the flap on a Whisper White Medium Envelope my project was complete.
Oh my goodness, I can’t tell you how much I love this card! Especially since this new Silver Glimmer Paper really sparkles (although in the photo of the inside it looks rather grey for some reason).
The card looks fun from the outside, but the back view of the snowman just takes it to a whole other level. What do you think?
SNOW IS GLISTENING AND SNOWFALL THINLITS DIES
Don’t you just love the snowflake flourish from the Snowfall Thinlits Dies? These dies and the coordinating Snow Is Glistening Stamp Set are part of the limited edition Snowflake Showcase promotion. They will be available for customers to purchase during November but only while stocks last.
Also in the Snowflake Showcase suite is the Happiness Surrounds Stamp Set, Snowflake Trinkets and White Velvet Paper.
I have a feeling that all these new items will be very popular and I’ll be surprised if they’ll last the whole month. My advice has to be to place your order as early in November as you can. In fact I’ll be submitting an order for my local customers first thing on November 1st just to be safe.
You can see all these limited edition items in the Snowflake Showcase PDF. This is a two-page flyer so be aware it may take a minute to download completely.
I’ve already created a couple of projects using some of these new products and you can see them in these previous blog posts:

WHAT WILL YOU STAMP?
Now all that’s left is for me to remind you about this week’s What Will You Stamp Challenge WWYS192 – Seasonal Chums.
You’ll find more inspiring projects using this set from other members of the WWYS Design Team over on our blog. We never get to see each other’s creations in advance so I’ll be checking it out myself.
If you already have this set, we’d love to see your ideas. If you want to join the challenge create a new original project using at least one stamp from Seasonal Chums. Then upload it to our challenge gallery for everyone to see.
At the end of the challenge we’ll randomly select one person to be our weekly winner. As well as bragging rights they’ll also get a cool winners badge to display on their social media. In addition the winner will be invited to be our Guest Designer for WWYS195 on November 19th. It could even be you!
