One week today will be Christmas Eve, and two week’s today New Year’s Eve! I’m sure that can’t be right. Does anyone else think that time has is no longer flying by, it’s positively supersonic? Today is also time for another What Will You Stamp? Challenge WWYS199 – Peaceful Poinsettia, and I’ve one final Christmas table idea for you, a pretty way to present the silverware (cutlery).
WATERCOLOR PENCILS
I simply love the Peaceful Poinsettia Stamp Set for its large sentiments and holly images. But for today’s project I thought that the main poinsettia and leaf image was perfect.
I began by stamping the image onto some Watercolor Paper using StazOn Jet Black ink.
I decided to use Watercolor Pencils to colour the image as they’ve been a bit neglected of late. I coloured the poinsettia using Calypso Coral, then used an Aqua Painter to blend the pencil into ‘paint’. While that was drying I coloured the leaves using Old Olive and blended that with the Aqua Painter too.
Once the image was dry I went back and added some areas of Melon Mambo and Real Red to the flower. Then used the Aqua Painter to blend those colours.
On the leaves I decided to experiment a little with areas of Bermuda Bay. My thinking was that the Bermuda Bay has green in it and I was delighted at the result. When I blended it with the Aqua Painter over the Old Olive it just gave a darker green.
Finally I colored the berries with Daffodil Delight and blended that with an Aqua Painter. Then left it to dry completely.
I was fairly happy with the image, but it just seemed to need some darker areas. For this I chose the Rich Razzleberry pencil. I lightly added it to the bottom of the petals, some parts of the leaves, and even on one side of each of the berries. Then one final blending with the Aqua Painter and my colouring was complete.
SILVERWARE WRAP
I left the image for a few hours to make sure that everything was completely dry before I started on the next stage.
Using my Big Shot and Magnetic Platform I cut out the image with the coordinating die from the Detailed Poinsettia Thinlits. Then I took it over to my folded napkin and silverware.
The image is quite long, which I wanted, but it just looked odd placed on top of the silverware. It was too flat, it needed ‘tweaking’. So I carefully pulled the image between my thumb and the Bone Folder to give it a gentle curve. That was it, that’s what it needed.
Now all I had to do was wrap a narrow strip of Whisper White Card around the silverware and napkin and secure it at the front with Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow). Then I stacked two Stampin’ Dimensionals in the centre of the strip and fixed the curved poinsettia image to it. Finally I added three So Saffron pearls from the Share What You Love Artisan Peals in the centre of the poinsettia. Job done.
I really like how this silverware wrap turned out. Among the stress of preparing for Christmas, taking time for a little colouring therapy works wonders. Plus with this project done I’m even closer to being ready for the big day.
WWYS199 – PEACEFUL POINSETTIA
This project was created for the What Will You Stamp? Challenge Design Team for WWYS199 – Peaceful Poinsettia.
If you’ve got this stamp set why not take a break and join our challenge? All you need to do is create a new project using at least one image from this set, then upload it to the challenge gallery. As my project shows, it doesn’t have to be a card, you could design a tag, a 3D item, anything that you fancy. Just so long as we can see an image or sentiment from Peaceful Poinsettia has been used.
At the end of the challenge we’ll randomly chose one person to be our weekly winner. They get bragging rights, a badge for their social media and an invitation to be our Guest Designer two weeks later. It might even be you!
