I’ve no idea why, but it seems that whenever I stamp a sentiment I always reach for Whisper White or Very Vanilla Card. I suppose it’s just a habit I’ve developed over the years. When I was completing my personal World Card Making Day challenge last month I tried to make the 24 cards quite different. And so it was that I ended up stamping my sentiment on coloured card. I have to say I loved the resulting project.

I began this project with the unique sponged background which I created on a piece of Purple Posy Card.
First I used some Stampin’ Sponge to add a layer of Merry Merlot ink over the whole piece. Then I went over that with Blackberry Bliss ink but making it lighter towards the centre. Once the sponging was complete I grabbed my Aqua Painter and flicked spots of clean water onto the coloured card. Then I set the piece aside to dry.
A REASON TO CELEBRATE
My “A reason to celebrate” sentiment came next. This is from the Painted Glass Stamp Set and I stamped it onto Petal Pink Card using Blackberry Bliss ink. Then I used Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow) to attach the sentiment to a piece of Gold Foil Sheet.
After that came a fancy border image from the Fanciful Fragrance Stamp Set. First I used Blackberry Bliss ink to stamp it onto the flap of a Very Vanilla Medium Envelope. Then I stamped it at the top of a layer of Very Vanilla Card.
For my card base I decided to stick with the coloured card theme, making it from the same Petal Pink Card used for the sentiment. Then the stamped Very Vanilla layer was fixed inside the card base using liquid glue.
A TOUCH MORE GOLD
To complete the card I decided it needed a touch more gold.

So once the sponged background was completely dry I wiped it with an Embossing Buddy to remove any oils and static. Then I stamped the fancy border image towards the bottom using VersaMark ink. Next I sprinkled the sticky ink with Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder and tapped off the excess. Then once I’d removed a few stray specks I melted the rest with my Heat Tool set on 2 (high).
I finished off the background layer by wrapping a piece of Gold Metallic-Edge Ribbon around it and securing the ribbon on the back with Tear & Tape Adhesive. Then using liquid glue I mounted the background onto some Very Vanilla Card before attaching it to the front of the card base.
Finally I added the layered sentiment with Stampin’ Dimensionals and I was done.
So what do you think? Do you stick to white or vanilla for your sentiments, or do you use coloured card too?
As expected I struggled to find other examples where I’d stamped a sentiment onto coloured card. However I did find some some projects where I stamped the sentiment on sponged backgrounds:
Beautiful! Love everything about this card. the resulting color after you sponged on the purple posy is awesome! Thanks for sharing!
