My 9 year old granddaughter Alyssa is an avid reader, like her mum and grandma. So it stands to reason that I send her bookmarks that I’ve made. Recently she very sadly admitted that one of them had been damaged and I promised to make a her a new one. I had the perfect image in mind, a child reading under a tree. It would be my first project using the new Summer Days (Host) Stamp Set.

SUMMER DAYS
Isn’t that a sweet image, and all using just one stamp.
I began by cutting a 2″ x 5-1/2″ piece of Thick Very Vanilla Card. Then I shaped the top using the new Fancy Tag Topper Punch.
Next I stamped the image from the Summer Days (Host) Stamp Set using Smoky Slate ink.

On a Full-Adhesive Post-It® Note I then stamped the image again using Tuxedo Black ink. The change of ink colour was simply so I could see the outline of the image clearly. Then using Paper Snips I cut out the child and the tree to create a mask.

I placed the mask over the image on the bookmark and then began to colour the background. For this I used Sponge Brayers with Seaside Spray ink for the sky and Pear Pizzazz for the ground. Once the background was complete I removed the mask.

SIMPLE COLOURING
Now I was ready to colour in the image, starting with the tree. For the leaves I used the dark and light Granny Apple Green Stampin’ Blends alcohol markers. Then for the trunk I used the dark and light Crumb Cake Stampin’ Blends.

Turning to the child’s hair and clothes I chose the five 2020-2022 In Color Stampin’ Write Markers: Bumblebee, Cinnamon Cider, Just Jade, Magenta Madness and Misty Moonlight. That just left the child’s skin which I coloured using the Ivory Stampin’ Blends.
To complete the bookmark I threaded some Seaside Spray 1/4″ Metallic Ribbon through the slot and tied it in a simple knot.
This bookmark turned out exactly as I’d hoped. I can’t wait to hear what Alyssa thinks of it.
