Today is Heritage Day here in Nova Scotia. It serves as an annual reminder of the people, places and events that make up our Province’s unique history. It’s one of the few Statutory Holidays here and so most businesses are closed. Interestingly though it’s not a federal holiday, so federal offices and federally regulated businesses like Canada Post remain open. Other provinces also mark the third Monday in February although with a different name e.g. Family Day. Regardless, it’s good to take a ... VIEW POST
Stylish Classic Car
Yesterday was glorious with temperatures in the double digits and wall-to-wall sunshine. Last week’s snow melted away, and we finally had a little spring sneak peek. Today however is a different day, and as this is Nova Scotia winter hasn’t finished with us quite yet. Today’s forecast includes six hours of ice pellets and freezing rain. That won’t be fun, as thick ice coating the trees and power lines has the potential to knock out the power. So while I finish preparations for that, here’s a ... VIEW POST
Stylish Shapes
Last November I completed my annual challenge to design and create 24 cards in 24 hours. It should have happened on World Card Making Day but was delayed due to Hurricane Fiona. Since then I’ve been bringing you the cards I made and providing instructions for your own personal use. Unfortunately some of my posts had to be delayed as products I used became temporarily ‘not orderable’. This is what happened with today’s birthday card featuring the Stepping Stones Stamp Set and the now back in ... VIEW POST
Painted Florets
For today’s project I wanted to play a little more with the Framed Florets Stamp Set and coordinating dies. Painting with ink gave me a very different look to my previous experiments and I have to say I love it. I’m not a painter by any means, but it seems that the image I chose is very forgiving. Even the flower centres, where the colour bled after I painted them before the adjacent petals were properly dry, somehow seems to work. It certainly gives me ideas for a future project. FLORETS ... Beauty Of Dies
The beauty of papercrafting is that there are so many different ways to create projects. Of course that doesn’t mean every project I make is different. In fact I sometimes feel I can get fixated on one or two techniques and forget about all the other wonderful things I can do with the tools at my disposal. Today was not one of those days as I resurrected an oldie but goodie; the faux letterpress technique. All you need is your standard die-cutting machine, a die and a Silicone Craft ... VIEW POST
Fern Changing Colours
As I sat down to create today’s project I had just a very vague idea of what I was doing. All I knew was that I wanted to experiment a little more with the Fern 3D Embossing Folder. In previous experiments I’d simply embossed coloured card, which turned out remarkably well. After that I'd inked up some card before embossing the fern design into it, and adding other ink colours afterwards. Today I wanted to see what would happen if I started by embossing Basic White Card before inking ... VIEW POST
