At a recent craft fair I was struck by the number of people looking for get well, thinking of you and sympathy cards. Most said that while they hoped never to need to send them, it was something they always kept on hand. That way if they did need to send a card they had one that could go in the mail the same day. So when I was thinking about making a card for today’s blog I immediately thought of a sympathy card. Out came the Timeless Tulips Stamp Set and I got to work.

BEAUTY OF THE EARTH
First I wanted to choose some patterned paper and reached for the Beauty of the Earth 12″ x 12″ Designed Series Paper (DSP) pack. I decided that the abstract trees in muted autumn colours would be perfect. Using the paper as my inspiration I selected Merry Merlot and Misty Moonlight for my card layers. Then it was time to start cutting.
I began by using my Paper Trimmer to cut and score a piece of Merry Merlot Card. After folding it along the scored line I sharpened the crease with a Bone Folder to create a card base.
Then from the Beauty of the Earth DSP I cut a piece 3/4″ x 5-1/4″ and using Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow) fixed it down the right-hand edge of a 4″ x 5-1/4″ piece of Basic White Card. This layer was glued inside the card base and I set it aside.
The next piece of DSP was cut to 2-1/4″ x 6″ and glued to the flap of a Basic White Medium Envelope. Then with Paper Snips I trimmed off the excess paper using the edge of the flap as a guide.

For the background layer I cut a 4″ x 5-1/4″ piece of Misty Moonlight plaid design from the 2020-2022 In Color 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper Assortment. Using liquid glue I mounted it onto a 4-1/8″ x 5-3/8″ layer of Misty Moonlight Card. Then I glued the layers onto the front of my card base.
Finally I cut a 3-1/4″ x 4″ piece of the DSP and glued it to a 3-3/8″ x 4″ piece of Misty Moonlight Card. I mounted the assembled piece onto a 3-1/2″ x 4″ piece of Merry Merlot Card with liquid glue before using Stampin’ Dimensionals to attach the completed layer to the card front.
TIMELESS TULIPS SENTIMENT
With the layers complete it was time to stamp my sentiment from the Timeless Tulips Stamp Set. For this I chose “May the memories of yesterday comfort you today”. Using Misty Moonlight ink I stamped the sentiment onto a piece of Basic White Card. Then I punched it out using the Regular Postage Stamp Punch so the sentiment was towards the right-hand edge.

Next, I wrapped some 3/8″ Denim Ribbon around the left side of the sentiment piece and secured it on the back using Tear & Tape Adhesive. I liked the Denim Ribbon but the straight line was a bit boring. So I threaded some Linen Thread diagonally around the ribbon and secured that on the back with more Tear & Tape Adhesive.
Placing the sentiment onto the tree background it looked like it was randomly ‘floating’. It felt that it needed something to ‘anchor’ it to the rest of the design. Looking through my scraps of card I found some 1″ strips in Merry Merlot and Misty Moonlight. I trimmed the Merry Merlot one to 3″ long and the Misty Moonlight one to 2-1/2″ long. Then using liquid glue I mounted them on top of each other, overlapping them by about 3/4″ while lining up the right-hand edges.
To finish I fixed the layered card strips onto the tree background with liquid glue. Then using Stampin’ Dimensionals I attached the sentiment on top and my sympathy card was complete.
I really like how this card turned out. It’s an interesting colour combination and has a more masculine / gender neutral feel. What do you think?
