Today I have a lot of things to get done. In recent weeks and months it’s become clear to me that I could probably medal at the procrastination Olympics. So I’m using a combination of ‘brain dumping’ and ‘time blocking’ techniques to try to get myself back on track. First on today’s list was to create a quick and easy card using the Waterside Retreat 12” x 12” Designer Series Paper (DSP). Two different but coordinating patterns, two colours of coordinating card and this is what I came up with…

Having chosen these basics I began by cutting a 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ piece of Lost Lagoon Card for my A2 card base. With the long side at the top I scored the card at 4-1/4″, then folded it along the scored line and sharpened the crease with a Bone Folder.

WATERSIDE RETREAT

From the Waterside Retreat DSP pack I found the sheet with the subtle seagull pattern. I cut a 2-1/4″ x 6″ piece and using Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow) I fixed it onto the flap of a Basic White Medium Envelope. Then I trimmed off the excess paper with scissors, using the edge of the flap as a guide.

Going back to the seagull sheet I cut the next piece at 2-7/8″ x 4-5/8″, and another at 3/4″ x 5-1/4″. Then I went back to the DSP pack and from the blue and green narrow striped pattern I cut a piece 2-1/4″ x 2-1/4″.

For the mat layers I chose Old Olive Card to coordinate with the striped DSP. First I cut a 3″ x 4-3/4″ piece of card and mounted the large seagull piece of DSP on top using liquid glue. Then I glued that onto the card base, 1/4″ from the crease and midway between the top and bottom edges.

For the next layer I cut some Old Olive Card at 2-3/8″ x 2-3/8″ and glued the striped square piece onto that. This was immediately added to the card front 1/4″ from the right-hand side and 1″ from the bottom edge.

Finally I glued the 3/4″ strip of DSP down the right-hand edge of a 4″ x 5-1/4″ layer of Basic White Card. Then I glued that inside the card base.

PHRASES & FRAMES

For my ‘thinking of you’ sentiment I turned to the Phrases & Frames Stamp Set. Using Lost Lagoon ink I stamped the sentiment onto a 1-5/8″ x 2″ piece of Basic White Card. After cutting a 1-3/4″ x 2-1/8″ layer of Old Olive Card I glued the sentiment on top. Then using Stampin’ Dimensionals I added the sentiment to the card front 7/8″ from the crease and 2-1/4″ from the bottom edge.

To finish I decided to add some Old Olive circles from the Dewdrops Embellishments pack. I placed one of the 5mm circles below the bottom edge of the striped layer. Then added a 5mm and 4mm circle in a column above the top of the layer. And just like that my project was complete.

I love how quick and easy this card was to put together. Who’d have thought seagulls would make such a lovely calming ‘thinking of you’ card!
