As summer begins it’s eventual transformation to autumn, the leaves are starting to change colour. Some have already fallen and litter the lawn, reminding us that winter isn’t that far away. Watching the changing of the seasons is one of the perks of living in this rural part of Nova Scotia. I suppose then that I shouldn’t have been surprised when I was drawn to the new Winter Woods Stamp Set. I knew immediately that it would have to go on my Holiday Catalogue pre-order.
There are so may possibilities with this set, so for today’s simple Sunday project I chose one image and the sentiment and set to work.
SIMPLE IMAGERY
Starting with a piece of Whisper White Card I used a piece of Stampin’ Sponge to add a little Pool Party ink across the top two-thirds.
I inked up the line of birch trees with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and stamped-off onto some scrap paper. Then without reinking the stamp I stamped the trees onto the sponged piece.
With that done I mounted the trees onto a layer of Pool Party Card using Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow).
THE SENTIMENT
If you’ve been following my blog for some time you’ll know that not all my Christmas cards are happy ones. For some people Christmas is a sad time, reminding them of someone who’ve they’ve lost. A happy, jolly card may not be appropriate and instead we’ll send a card letting them know we’re thinking of them. The ‘thinking of you this season’ sentiment in the Winter Woods Stamp Set would be perfect for this.
Using Tuxedo Black ink I stamped the sentiment onto Whisper White Card , then fixed it to to some Pool Party Card with liquid glue.
ASSEMBLING THE CARD
Keeping it simple, I used my Stampin’ Trimmer to cut and score a piece of Thick Whisper White Card. Then I folded it along the scored line and sharpened the crease with a Bone Folder to create a card base.
The mounted tree panel came next, attached with liquid glue towards the bottom of the card. Then the mounted sentiment was added with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
Finally I wrapped a length of Whisper White Solid Baker’s Twine around the front of the card and tied it in a simple bow. Then I trimmed the ends of the twine, but still left the tails quite long.
FINISHING TOUCHES
Taking the birch trees image again, I inked it up with Tuxedo Black ink and ‘stamped-off’ onto scrap paper. Then I stamped a portion of the tree image coming in from the right hand side of a layer of Whisper White Card. This piece was fixed inside the card base with liquid glue.
To finish I repeated the process on the front of a Whisper White Medium Envelope and my simple project was complete.
WINTER WOODS
Winter Woods is a 7 piece red-rubber stamp set that has only one sentiment, the one I used today. As well as the line of birch trees it has two other large images; a fir tree and three long tree trunks. The remaining pine sprig, pine cone and shadow image are all smaller. The detail on all the images is amazing and they’d be great for focal points and backgrounds alike.
While this set works great on its own it also compliments the Rooted in Nature Stamp Set from the Annual Catalogue. Something that I love. What’s even better is that there are coordinating In The Woods Framelits available for this set.
So now I’m nip off to create a sneak peek project for you using the coordinating dies. While you wait, here’s a look at the Winter Woods Stamp Set.

Absolutely beautiful! I’ve never thought about Christmas time not being a happy time. But you are so correct about this. This was a good realization for me. Love the card and will be CASEing it.
Thank you Cheryl.
