Last week I created a birthday card with a customised background and trim. It was one of those projects that kind of evolved without any plan for where it was going. Not all my crafting projects are like that though. Today’s notepad idea has been in my head pretty much since I first saw the Fresh As A Daisy Designer Series Paper (DSP). It was simply a case of actually sitting down and making it. I have to say that the completed project turned out even better than I’d hoped.

QUICK COVER
There’s something about this simple white daisy pattern that I love and I really wanted to make the most of the design. That’s why putting it on the front of a 5″ x 8″ notepad really appealed to me. The pad had a card backing but no cover so I could get right to work.
First I cut a 5-1/8″ x 11″ piece of Copper Clay Card. Then with the long side at the top I scored it at 8-1/8″ and 8-7/16″ to accommodate the depth of the pages. After folding the card along the scored lines I sharpened the creases with a Bone Folder.
I wanted to add a useful pen holder so next I cut a 4″ piece of Basic White 3/4″ Herringbone Ribbon. I wrapped the ribbon around a Pentel RSVP pen and then secured the ends of the ribbon to the back of the notebook using Tear & Tape Adhesive. With that done I wrapped the Copper Clay Card around the notepad before fixing it in place over the ends of the ribbon with Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow).
Next I cut a 4-5/8″ x 7-5/8″ piece of the pretty daisy paper along with a 4-3/4″ x 7-3/4″ piece of Basic White Card. After mounting the DSP onto the card I decided to add some ribbon details. So I wrapped a 6″ piece of the Basic White 3/4″ Herringbone Ribbon around the layers and secured it on the back with Tear & Tape Adhesive. Then from the 2023-2025 Jute Trim pack I cut 6″ of Copper Clay twine, laid it along the ribbon and secured that on the back too. Finally I added the completed layers to the new notebook cover using Stampin’ Dimensionals.
HANDCUT DAISY
Whenever I create my notebook projects I’m always mindful about how and where they’re going to be used. For instance a notebook that’s going in a pocket, bag or briefcase can’t have pieces that can be accidentally torn off. However this large notepad wasn’t travelling and so I was able to add some extra embellishments.

First covered the back of a piece of Old Olive Card with some Adhesive Sheet. Then I cut some gorgeous delicate foliage from it using one of the Cheerful Daisies Dies. Finally, after removing the backing paper from the adhesive sheet, I added the two die-cut pieces over the ribbon on the notepad cover.
I could have die-cut a daisy too but instead I went back to the same pattern from the Fresh As A Daisy DSP. After finding a large single white daisy I cut it out using my Paper Snips. Then with pieces of Stampin’ Dimensionals on the back I placed the flower on top of the foliage.
While the cover was complete, I hadn’t quite finished with this project and turned my attention back to the pen. The reason I’d specifically chosen to use the Pentel RSVP pen is because I can unscrew the black section at the bottom. With that removed I cut a 3/4″ x 3-1/2″ piece of the ‘sky’ from my DSP sheet and rolled it onto a long cylinder. Then I fed the cylinder into the barrel of the pen and around the ink refill. Once the paper was in place it automatically unrolled and I had a pen barrel that perfectly matched my notepad cover!
With that my pretty daisy notepad was complete and it will make me smile every time I use it.
