When life gets tough or particularly stressful I turn to books. Finding a place to sit quietly and read is my way to switch off and allow my mind and body to find a moment of peace. Afterwards I sometimes realise that this huge issue wasn’t such a big deal after all. Sometimes it still is, but that break has recharged me so I can face it head on.
Taking time for reflection or escape though books is the reason that I love bookmarks. Since I’ve started counting I’ve made almost four hundred of them. I haven’t kept them all, but the ones I have hold particular meaning or inspiration for me. So with tomorrow apparently being ‘read a book day’ I thought it was a good excuse to design a bookmark for today’s simple Sunday project. And I couldn’t resist using the Peaceful Place Specialty Designer Series Paper (DSP) as my starting point.

PEACEFUL PLACE
One of the sheets in the Peaceful Place DSP has been designed to be cut through the middle at 6″. This then becomes two identical 6″ x 12″ sheets of silver trees with falling snow. Below each tree-line there is a wide white border that’s perfect for stamping onto.
After cutting the sheet in half I cut a 1-3/4″ strip from one edge. Then I trimmed this piece down to 5-1/4″ tall by cutting 3/4″ off the ‘sky’ end.
Next I pulled out the Angels Of Peace Stamp Set and a Misty Moonlight ink pad. I chose the “Peace on Earth – Goodwill – Toward Men” sentiment and stamped it in the white space at the bottom of the DSP.
Using my Paper Trimmer I cut a 2″ x 5-1/2″ strip of Misty Moonlight Card for my bookmark base. Then I mounted the DSP onto it with Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow).

To create the hole at the top I punched the assembled piece with the Detailed Trio Punch. Then I put a Mini Glue Dot onto the little bit of card above the hole.
Finally I cut two 6″ pieces of silver cord from the Simply Elegant Trim pack. I folded the cord in half and passed the loops through the hole. Then after passing the ends through the loops I pulled gently and pressed the cord onto the Mini Glue Dot to hold it in place.
And that was it. My latest bookmark was complete. Now I have a list of chores to get done, but I’ll definitely put the bookmark to use later.
Whatever you have planned for today I hope you’re able to find your own peaceful place.
