I don’t tend to use a whole lot of ribbon on my projects. But when I do it has to be something that I love. The Stampin’ Up! 2018 Holiday Catalogue has some gorgeous new ribbons and I have one to show you today. This one is called Poppy Parade 1/2″ Textured Weave Ribbon. It has a wonderfully interesting texture in Poppy Parade and Whisper White.
The white edging is obvious, but look closely and you’ll see a subtle difference between the two sides. On one side it seems the body of the textured weave ribbon is all red. But turn it over and you’ll notice subtle lines of fine white thread running across the ribbon. I knew it would look great on today’s bookmark project.
THE BASIC BOOKMARK
I decided to try something new today and used no card to create my bookmark blank. Instead I used my Stampin’ Trimmer to cut some Wood Textures Designer Series Paper (DSP) to 4″ x 5-1/2″. Then with short side at the top I scored it at 2″.
The DSP was folded along the scored line and the crease sharpened with a Bone Folder. Then I opened up the folded DSP and put Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow) on the inside and closed it again.
Next I used the Scalloped Tag Topper Punch to punch one end of the bookmark. Then to complete the shape, the bottom corners were punched with the corner rounder option on the Detailed Trio Punch.
MOTIVATIONAL SENTIMENT
I love bookmarks with quotes or motivational sentiments and I found what I needed in the Wonderful Moments Stamp Set.
“The little things you do make the world a whole lot better”
So using Memento Tuxedo Black ink I stamped the sentiment onto the centre of the bookmark.
TEXTURED WEAVE
With the cutting and stamping complete all that was left was the ribbon trim.
The new textured weave ribbon was threaded through the slot at the top of the bookmark and held in place with Glue Dots. Then I wrapped some Whisper White Solid Baker’s Twine around it close to the slot and tied it in a small bow.
In no time at all my simple Sunday project was done.
MORE GORGEOUS RIBBON
As well as the Textured Weave Ribbon (only available in Poppy Parade) there’s lots of other gorgeous ribbons coming.
If you like the Rich Razzleberry 1/4″ Velvet Ribbon in the Annual Catalogue, you’ll love the new Tranquil Tide one.
In 3/8″ there’s a Real Red Mixed Satin Ribbon and also a Black Glittered Organdy Ribbon. Forget Christmas and Halloween, I’m thinking these would be great for Valentine’s Day and swanky parties.
For something more rustic, how about 5/8″ Striped Burlap Trim or 3/16 Braided Linen Trim. Paired with flowers, foliage and country images, these would be perfect.
For the twine lovers the catalogue has a mixed pack called Festive Farmhouse Cotton Twine. The pack contains three spools, one each of Cherry Cobbler, Mossy Meadow and Very Vanilla. Traditional baker’s twine also makes an appearance in white and Garden Green twisted together.
Finally, the ribbon I’m most looking forward to getting my hands on. Merry Merlot and Copper 5/8″ Reversible Ribbon. On one side you see Merry Merlot with a copper sheen, on the other side, Copper with a Merry Merlot Sheen. Very luxurious!
So you see there’s something for everyone.
The Holiday catalogue goes live for customers on September 5th so there’s not much longer to wait. If you live in Canada and don’t currently have a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator, I’d be happy to send you a catalogue. Just contact me and I’ll get one in the mail.
