When it comes to pretty patterned paper my education has taken another leap forward. Yesterday I did something that would have been unthinkable even a few short weeks ago… I cut up a sheet of the Dainty Flowers 12” x 12” Designer Series Paper (DSP) that you can get for free during Sale-A-Bration. Nothing odd there you might think. But it wasn’t just any sheet, it was the sheet with the oval floral frames, and I cut right through the middle of one of them. But I had my reasons.

CUT THROUGH THE FLOWERS!
This project actually began a couple of weeks ago when I cut the two long floral designs running down the centre of one of the sheets in the Dainty Delight DSP. Apart from the one long image I didn’t use that day it also left three oval frames in each of the larger pieces I’d cut off. In fact I immediately cut one of these pieces into three 4″ wide sections, each one with a pretty oval frame. Today though I reached for the other part where all three frames were still together.

So after quite a bit of mental encouragement I cut the 4-7/8″ x 12″ piece at 6″. This was now the perfect size to fit the main die from the Pretty Pillow Box Dies, and firmly crossing my fingers I cranked it through my Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine.
With the paper cut there was now no turning back and I gently folded the paper along the ‘scored’ lines left by the die. After sharpening the creases with my fingers I used Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow) to fix the ‘envelope flap’ of the pillow box in place.
For my sentiment I chose “Just for you” from the Celebrating You Stamp Set. Using Rich Razzleberry ink (matching some of the flowers) I stamped it below the flap. Then I put some small treats inside the pillow box and folded in the sides.

Finally I wrapped Linen Thread three times around the pillow box and tied it in a simple bow. And just like that my project was complete.
I must say that this was a gamble. I was really conscious it could have gone horribly wrong and I’d have wasted this gorgeous paper. But sometimes the simplest of ideas pay off. I’m so glad I had the courage to cut through those flowers!
For the project using the long section of this sheet of DSP see my blog post Dainty vintage flowers.

Hello,
Beautiful box. Is the white part embossed? From my view it looks like the white is.
Thanks for sharing and have a great day.
Thank you Lesa. No embossing needed as the ‘texture’ you see on the paper is part of the original printed design.
