The list of retiring products that are now completely sold out continues to grow, particularly stamp sets. So today I decided that my project would feature just one retiring item, the Ornate Layers Dies. As the name suggests this set cuts ornate layers for cards and other papercraft projects. Two of the 8 dies cut a decorative pattern into the centre of a layer, while the rest create solid layers with fancy edges. These can then be used by themselves or stacked, which is what I opted to do here.

TWO ORNATE LAYERS
With the focus on the Ornate Layers Dies I wanted to keep my colour scheme quite neutral. So I chose Basic Gray and Basic White for a monochrome look.
From the nest of the three tall dies in the set I chose the two larger ones. Then I used the simpler one of the two to cut some Basic Gray Card.
Before using the other die to cut out the Basic White Card I remembered to attach some Adhesive Sheet to the back of the card. Then, after running it through my Cut & Emboss Machine, I used the Die Brush Tip with my Take Your Pick Tool to remove all the tiny pieces from both die-cut layers.
Next from the Peekaboo Farm Stamp Set I chose my sentiment “life is better with you”. Then using Basic Gray ink I stamped this onto the Basic White layer. With that done I removed the release paper from the Adhesive Sheet and pressed the stamped piece onto the Basic Gray layer.
All I wanted now was some white twine from the Baker’s Twine Essentials Pack. I cut two 6″ pieces and carefully threaded them through the three centre holes in the top of the Basic Gray layer. Then I tied the twine together in a large simple knot and my bookmark was done.
Such a simple layout but the ornate edges add plenty of detail. I chose to turn this into a bookmark but this design would be perfect as layers on a card front don’t you think?
