When I first saw the Wonderful Moments Stamp Set in the Stampin’ Up! 2018/2019 Annual Catalogue I knew it was one that I wanted in my craft studio. The three large beautifully drawn line art images reminded me of the Beautiful You Stamp Set, but there’s also some smaller images for you to add extra details to one of the them. And don’t assume that the sentiments are only for wedding and baby showers, look closely and you’ll see they’re great for lots of other occasions too.
I was delighted when the members of the What Will You Stamp? Challenge Design Team were told that this week’s challenge would be WWYS179 – Wonderful Moments, all I had to do was decide which of my many ideas I’d use. In the end I settled on the bride image but, with the help of another stamp set in my stash, I used it to create a wedding thank you.
WONDERFUL MOMENTS
I began with the stunning bride image stamped using VersaMark ink onto a piece of Watercolor Paper that I’d wiped with an Embossing Buddy to remove any oils and static. I sprinkled the image with Silver Stampin’ Emboss Powder, tapped off the excess and removed some stray specks, before melting the rest with my Heat Tool set on 2 (high).
On a separate strip of Watercolor Paper I used the same process to emboss the ‘thanks so much’ sentiment (also from Wonderful Moments).
Finally I embossed the simple flourish image from Wonderful Moments in the centre of the flap on a Whisper White Medium Envelope.
Normally you’d expect to see a white wedding dress but for me that was going to be a problem as I really wanted the image to stand out on the off-white Watercolor Paper. So I took a little poetic licence and used my Aqua Painter to paint the dress using a very light wash of Smoky Slate ink. The other colours used were Blushing Bride, So Saffron, Pool Party and Gorgeous Grape, and once I’d finished painting I set the piece aside to dry.
TIP – If you don’t have ink refills to paint with, squeeze a closed ink pad and when you open it there’ll be some ink transferred to the inside of the lid. You can add water to the ink if you wish and then pick it up using your Aqua Painter or Blender Pen.
With the image painted I then began to think about the finished card. I tested various card colours to mat the watercoloured piece but nothing seemed appropriate. In the end I reverted to an old trick of mine, using a Clear Wink of Stella Glitter Brush to transform a piece of Smoky Slate Card into brushed silver. As I would only see the edges of the card I only silvered a 1/4″ border around the piece but it was effective nevertheless.
Once the watercoloured piece was dry I used Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow) to attach it to the silvered card. As so often happens with watercoloured pieces it was a little warped, so I placed it inside some folded white copy paper and put it under a heavy box of dies to help the layers dry nice and flat.
TWO SENTIMENTS
The box of dies reminded me that I still had to deal with the main ‘thanks so much’ sentiment. So I took the embossed sentiment over to my Big Shot and Magnetic Platform and cut it out using a die from the Stitched Labels Framelits. I love these decorative dies and the faux stitching adds a lovely touch too.
For the inside of the card I pulled out the All Things Thanks Stamp Set and from it the ‘Thank you for being a part of our happily ever after’ sentiment’, then I stamped it onto a layer of Whisper White Card using Memento Tuxedo Black ink.
Using my Stampin’ Trimmer I cut and scored a piece of Thick Whisper White Card, folded it along the scored line and sharpened the crease with a Bone Folder to create the case base and attached the Whisper White layer to the inside with liquid glue.
To finish I attached the layered and flattened watercolour piece to the front of the card base with Stampin’ Dimensionals. Then added some irridescent sequins (from the Metallics Sequin Assortment) attached with Mini Glue Dots.
I’m so pleased with how this project turned out, and as I’d hoped the focus is on the bride image as a whole and you don’t really register that the wedding dress is grey. I hope you like it as much as I do.
