Well yesterday’s forecast snow arrived and is lying thick on the ground. I thought it would have stopped by now but as I look outside I can see it’s started up again. I have to admit it’s very pretty, and eerily quiet as the snow seems to muffle every sound. Perhaps it’s the perfect day to stay in and get organised. So here’s a decorated diary idea to get you started, easily created with the help of the Timeless Greetings (card) kit and the new Metal Plate 3D Embossing Folder.

TIMELESS GREETINGS PIECES
I found a 5-1/2″ x 4-1/8″ undated diary planner in Walmart a little while ago and it was covered in pretty flowers. Nice for me, but not so much for hubby. However with a stapled spine (like a magazine) I thought it could be easily altered to give it a more masculine feel. Somehow as I was considering what to use, my brain connected diary and time, and into my head popped the clock face in the Timeless Greetings (card) kit. And everything snowballed from there…
I found the clock face piece in the kit along with a silver pocket-watch die-cut piece and die-cut ‘watch chain’. Then from the stamp set in the Timeless Greetings Kit I took the clock numbers and hands stamp. The kit includes a Soft Suede mini ink spot and acrylic block, but instinctively I picked up my usual block and full-size ink pad. After stamping the clock face I used Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow) to attach it to the silver pocket-watch. Then I added the ‘chain’, fixing it into place with a dot of glue. Finally from the kit I took one of the small self-adhesive copper diamond embellishments and placed that in the centre of the clock face.
Before putting away the stamp set and ink pad I decided to create my sentiment. So from the kit I took one of the larger white sentiment labels and stamped “time to celebrate”. Then I set it aside with one of the brown printed strips from the kit. Now all the decorative pieces were ready I turned my attention to the actual cover.
METAL PLATE TEXTURE
As I looked at rest of the Timeless Greetings Kit contents I wondered if I could use one of the card bases in some way. I thought maybe I could cut it up to create a layer. However as I put it against the planner cover I realised it was almost the perfect size. All I had to do was trim 1/8″ off the front and back of the card to make it 4-1/8″ x 5-1/2″. I could have left it there but that’s when I decided to add texture.

In the Stampin’ Up! January to April 2023 Mini Catalogue there are three new embossing folders. In what is most definitely a first, I bought all three! Today I wanted to try out the Metal Plate 3D Embossing Folder. So I put the front of the trimmed card base into the embossing folder and ran it through my full-size Cut & Emboss Machine. Then I placed the back of the card base into the embossing folder and repeated the process.
Before attaching the card to the cover I had a couple of other little tasks to complete. First I found a second brown printed strip from the kit and wrapped it around a mechanical pencil. Using liquid glue I fixed the two ends together to create a loop, then glued the ends to the back of the diary.
Next I cut an 8″ piece of Sahara Sand 3/8″ Twill Ribbon, and with some Tear & Tape Adhesive fixed one end to the back of the diary, at the top near to the crease. With these two details in place I glued the embossed card base onto the diary, sandwiching the pen loop and ribbon end beneath it.
Now all I had to do was glue the first brown strip onto the cover, add the assembled pocket watch, and finish off with the sentiment. My floral diary was completely transformed, and I like it so much I’m tempted to keep it for myself…
