Today’s quick project was another of those happy accidents. I was looking to create something using products that I’ve neglected for while but were still available from Stampin’ Up! As I picked up the Happy Hedgehogs Stamp Set I could hear something loose in the case. And there when I opened it was a hedgehog image already stamped onto Sahara Sand Card in Early Espresso ink. Also there was a separate prickly hedgehog back stamped onto Crumb Cake Card with Early Espresso ink. All I needed was a suitable background.

HEDGEHOG SCENE
From a pot on my desk I grabbed one of a bunch of 2″ x 5-1/2″ pieces of Thick Basic White Card I keep on hand. These are a great size for testing out ideas and often end up on my projects.
For today’s background I decided to create a simple scene for my hedgehog. First I scrunched up a loose ball of Saran Wrap and tapped it gently onto a Granny Apple Green ink pad. Then at the bottom of the card strip I kind of tapped and swiped up a little. This gave me a sort of grassy effect which was perfect.
With the ground done I used a Blending Brush to add a light layer of Starry Sky ink over the rest of the strip using a quick circular motion. This created lighter and darker areas of sky that seem more realistic than an even solid colour.
Next, for the sentiment I went back to the Happy Hedgehogs Stamp Set. Using Starry Sky ink I stamped “finding a friend is the best discovery of all”.

This seemed quite appropriate for a bookmark so I punched a slot at the top using the Very Best Trio Punch. To stop the bookmark from being lost inside the books I needed to add some ribbon and cut two 6″ pieces of Starry Sky 1/8″ Metallic Woven Ribbon. After folding the ribbon in half I pushed the loops through the slot. Then I threaded the cut ends through the loops and pulled gently to secure the ribbon in place.
Finally I was ready for the two hedgehog pieces that inspired this design. Using Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow) I glued the prickles onto the hedgehog piece. Then I glued him in place on the ‘grass’ and my project was complete.
Quick, cute and using up scrap pieces, happy Tuesday everyone!
