After yesterday’s sneak peek of the Tailor Made Tags Dies, I have some new Designer Series Paper to show you. The Beauty Of The Earth 12″ x 12″ DSP features a twelve tree and leaf designs and is stunning. It’s not hard to imagine these colours and styles being useful for every season. Today I chose one of the more abstract patterns as a background for my card project.

BACK ON YOUR FEET
Before getting to the Beauty Of The Earth DSP I first needed to create the focal point of the card. For this I chose the sloth image and “sigh” sentiment from the Back On Your Feet Stamp Set.
I began by using Soft Suede ink to stamp the sloth onto a 2-3/8″ x 3″ piece of Basic White Card. Next, in the top left corner, I added the sentiment and left it to dry for a few minutes.
Then I was ready to colour in the image using a Water Painter with Mossy Meadow and Soft Suede inks. First I pressed firmly on the lids of the closed ink pads to transfer ink from the pad to the lid. The inside of the lid then became my palette where I could mix the ink with a little clean water.
TIP – Basic White Card is not actually designed for watercolouring so the trick is to not over-wet the card. I work quickly and try to avoid going back over an area. I’m also careful not to let the water blur the stamped lines. It just takes a little practice but is worth the effort to have an additional design option.
Once I’d finished painting the image I set it aside to dry while I prepared the rest of the pieces for the project. I began by using my Paper Trimmer to cut and score a piece of Merry Merlot Card. Then I folded it along the scored line and sharpened the crease with a Bone Folder to create my card base
Now I was ready for the Beauty Of The Earth DSP.
BEAUTY OF THE EARTH
First I cut a 3-3/4″ x 5″ piece of the abstract pattern for the card front. Using Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow) I mounted it onto a 3-7/8″ x 5-1/8″ layer of Mossy Meadow Card. On top of the DSP I then glued a 1″ x 5″ strip of Merry Merlot Card, before attaching the layers to the card base.

My second piece of DSP was cut 3/4″ x 3-3/4″ and glued near the top of a 4″ x 5-1/4″ layer of Basic White Card. The assembled layer was then fixed inside the card base.
Finally I cut a 2-1/4″ x 6″ piece of the DSP and glued that to the flap of a Basic White Medium Envelope. Then with Paper Snips I trimmed off the excess DSP using the edge of the flap as a guide.

To complete my project I just needed to add the watercoloured image and sentiment. First I used liquid glue to mount it onto a 2-1/2″ x 3-1/8″ piece of Mossy Meadow Card. Then I added it to the card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals and I was done.
I really love the Beauty Of The Earth Designer Series Paper pack. The colours used are: Bumblebee, Cajun Craze, Cinnamon Cider, Early Espresso, Merry Merlot, Misty Moonlight, Mossy Meadow, Night of Navy and Old Olive. The DSP is also part of the new Beauty Of The Earth suite (more about that another day). I know you’ll be seeing a lot more of this in the future. For now though I’ll just leave you with a sneak peek of all twelve designs in the pack…
