Sometimes the simplest of ideas can turn into the prettiest projects. While playing with the Flowers For Every Season 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper (DSP) I decided to make a Christmas Card. Of course I couldn’t help but pull out the gorgeous poinsettia design for this. However, instead of starting with the card front I assembled the inside and envelope first. Then while looking at what was left of the DSP, an idea popped into my head. I’d turn it into gift wrap, and from there the card almost made itself.

COORDINATION FIRST
As I mentioned, this project started with the coordination.
I took the 6″ x 6″ sheet of DSP and cut a strip 2-1/4″ x 6″. Then using Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow) I attached it to the flap of a Whisper White Medium Envelope. With that done I trimmed the DSP with Paper Snips using the edge of the flap as a guide.
Next I cut a 3/4″ x 6″strip of the DSP and trimmed that down to 5-1/4″ long. Then I glued the strip down the right-hand edge of a 4″ x 5-1/4″ piece of Whisper White Card. Finally I added a 1/8″ strip of Just Jade Card against the edge of the DSP. Now I needed my card base.
Using my Paper Trimmer I cut and scored some Thick Whisper White Card. Then I folded it along the scored line and sharpened the crease with a Bone Folder. Finally I glued the assembled Whisper White layer on the inside of the card and I was ready to work on the front.
GIFT LAYER
Going back to the remaining poinsettia DSP I began by cutting a piece 3″ x 4-1/4″. Then with liquid glue I mounted it onto a 3-1/8″ x 4-3/8″ layer of Just Jade Card.

To turn the simple layer into a gift I cut two pieces of Poppy Parade and gold ribbon from the All The Trimmings Ribbon Combo Pack. Then with Mini Glue Dots on the back of the layer I attached the ribbon to form a cross towards the top corner. Of course every gift needs a bow, so I tied a small double bow and attached that with another Mini Glue Dot.
For my sentiment I turned to the Itty Bitty Christmas Stamp Set and Just Jade ink. First I stamped the “Christmas Wishes” onto a 1/2″ strip of Whisper White Card. Then I punched a V at the end using the Banners Pick-A-Punch. For some extra interest I added a curve by pulling the strip between my thumb and Bone Folder. Then I put a Stampin’ Dimensional behind the curve before fixing the sentiment to the “gift” with liquid glue.
To finish I attached the completed gift at an angle on the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
BONUS GIFT TAG
I’d very quickly finished my card, but sitting on my desk I still had two scraps left over from my original 6″ x 6″ sheet of paper. So rather than let it go to waste I decided to make a gift tag.

First I cut a 2″ x 3-5/8″ piece of Whisper White Card and a 1-7/8″ x 3-1/8″ piece of Just Jade Card. Next, using the Detailed Trio Punch I shaped the top left and bottom right corners of the card. Then I attached the Just Jade piece to the Whisper White one with liquid glue. I completed the layers with the 1-1/4″ x 3″ piece of DSP by shaping the corners like the card, before mounting onto the Just Jade Layer with liquid glue.
For the sentiment I went back to the Itty Bitty Christmas Stamp Set and chose “Happy Christmas”. Using Just Jade ink I stamped it onto a 3/4″ x 1-5/8″ piece of Whisper White Card. Then I shaped the top left and bottom right corners to match the tag. With that done I attached the sentiment using Stampin’ Dimensionals.
To finish, I punched an oval hole at the top of the tag using the Detailed Trio Punch. Then I threaded some more of the All The Trimmings Ribbon through the hole and tied it in a simple knot.

From my original 6″ x 6″ piece of patterned paper all I had left was a 3/4″ x 3/4″ scrap. Although it’s very small I can’t decide whether I might find a use for it, so for now it’s in the pack with the rest of the paper. Watch this space…
PRODUCT LIST
BUNDLE BONUS – I bought the Banners Pick-A-Punch in a bundle with the Banner Year Stamp Set (not used today). Ordering the two items using the single ‘bundle’ item number meant I saved 10% off the cost of buying them separately. I’ve included a link to the bundle in case you want to look at this option.
