My regular blog readers will know that I can sometimes have a quirky sense of humour. I’ve also been known to ‘see’ things in my Stampin’ Up! supplies that others may miss. So I simply couldn’t help myself when I saw the snowmen in the Santa’s Workshop Specialty Designer Series Paper (DSP) pack. With a little help from the Half Full Stamp Set and my Paper Snips I soon had one of my favourite Christmas card designs so far this year.
PREPARING THE SCENE
I began with a piece of Night of Navy Card cut and scored using my Stampin’ Trimmer. I folded the card along the scored line and sharpened the crease with a Bone Folder to create the card base.
Next I used Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow) to attach a layer of Whisper White Card to the front.
Then came the sky, created using a piece of Balmy Blue Card. To add some interest I used some Stampin’ Sponge to stamp Whisper White Craft ink over the surface in a tapping motion. Then this piece was attached to the Whisper White layer with liquid glue.
Next came the snowbanks created using the Softly Falling Textured Impressions Embossing Folder and my Big Shot. Then using my Paper Snips I cut the piece horizontally through the middle creating soft curves. One piece was attached to the bottom edge of the Balmy Blue layer with liquid glue and the second piece added on top using Stampin’ Dimensionals.
HALF FULL
Now it was time to pull out the Half Full Stamp Set, and two sentiments in particular.
On a piece of Whisper White Card and using Memento Tuxedo Black ink I stamped ‘I’m dreaming of a white Christmas’. Next I cut out the sentiment using my Big Shot and Magnetic Platform using a small die from the Stitched Labels Framelits. Then I attached the sentiment to the front of the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
In the Half Full Stamp Set is another sentiment designed as the punch line for the ‘white Christmas’ sentiment. It says ‘but if the white runs out I’ll drink red’. I stamped this second sentiment on a layer of Whisper White Card in the centre near the bottom. Then this piece was fixed inside the card base with liquid glue.
Finally I stamped the small holly image from the Half Full Stamp Set on the flap of a Whisper White Medium Envelope. Then I coloured the image using the light and dark Real Red and Shaded Spruce Stampin’ Blends alcohol markers.
VISUAL COMEDY
I was almost done, but if the Half Full Stamp Set provided the punch line, the Santa’s Workshop Specialty DSP would provide the visual comedy.
I used Paper Snips to cut out a standing snowman from the DSP and fixed him to the front of the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
Then I went back to the same sheet of paper and cut out the melting snowman. Once he was added to the inside of the card with liquid glue my project was finished.
Isn’t it funny how we assign meaning based on context. Suddenly with that “I’ll drink red” sentiment beside him, my melting snowman looked more like one who’d had a few too many at the Christmas party. It makes me giggle every time I look at it, and I hope it brightens your day too.
BUNDLE BONUS – The Stitched Labels Framelits used for the sentiment can be bought by itself, or you can buy it as part of a bundle with the coordinating Stitched All Around Stamp Set. Buying coordinating items using a single bundle item number will save you 10% off the cost of buying the same items separately. For this reason you’ll find links to both options in the product list below.
