Sometimes I just need to start the day a little later. I’ve noticed as I get older that I can only push myself so far, then I need to reset by sleeping a little longer and taking the day at a much slower pace. That’s not always easy with several calls/meetings planned. You’ve probably guessed that today is one of those days. Still, I managed to create today’s card project between scheduled appointments. It’s a masculine / gender neutral “thinking of you” card with a bold fern embossed background layer.

FERN BACKGROUND
It seems like ages since I last used an embossing folder and I think the Fern 3D Embossing Folder is the last one I bought. This embossing folder caught my attention because of the all over design that was perfect for gender-neutral projects.
I began by cutting two 4″ x 5-1/4″ pieces of Shimmery White Card. I set one piece aside while I used a Blending Brush to cover the other one with a layer of Parakeet Party ink. Then I put the inked piece inside the Fern 3D Embossing Folder and ran it through my Cut & Emboss Machine.
I’d already decided to make the fern the coordinating feature for this project so I had a couple of other tasks before I put the embossing folder away. First I took the remaining piece of Shimmery White Card and slid the long edge 3/4″ into the folder. Then I ran it through the machine to give me a textured strip across the card. Finally I embossed the flap of a Basic White Medium Envelope too.
Although I liked the main inked and embossed panel I felt that the fern pattern needed to be a little more prominent. So I took an Old Olive ink pad and gently dragged it over the raised surface. This darkened the fern fronds making them really stand out against the lighter green ink.
With that done I used my Paper Trimmer to cut and score some Parakeet Party Card for my card base. After folding the card along the scored line I sharpened the crease with a Bone Folder. Then I used Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow) to fix the embossed white layer on the inside.
GO TO GREETINGS
That just left the front of the card to do and I started by cutting a 4-1/8″ x 5-3/8″ piece of Old Olive Card. Then using liquid glue I mounted the inked and embossed layer onto it, before attaching the assembled piece to the card front.

Next, to break up the fern background a little I cut a 3/4″ x 5-1/4″ strip of Old Olive Card. Still using liquid glue I attached the strip across the background 1-1/4″ from the bottom edge.
All I needed now was a sentiment and for that I reached for the Go To Greetings Stamp Set. Using Old Olive ink I stamped the largest “Thinking of you” sentiment onto a 1-1/4″ x 4-1/4″ piece of Shimmery White Card. Then I fixed it over the Old Olive strip on the card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals. And just like that my project was complete.
I really like how this card turned out but now I’m wondering if if choosing green was a bit obvious. I think bright autumn colours would look good too. What do you think?
