More Snow On The Horizon

February 20, 2022 Leave a Comment

Yesterday was lovely.  It was below freezing but somehow the sunshine and blue sky made it seem warmer.  The day before we’d seen torrential rain followed by a flash freeze but all that was behind us.  Even the roads were clear and dry.  Spring was on the horizon.  And then overnight… more snow.  Probably a few inches, but with the wind blowing it around it’s hard to tell.  In fact it’s very like the scene on today’s simple Sunday project.  Definitely a day to stay in with a good book.

Create this scenic bookmark using the On The Horizon Stamp Set and New Horizons paper from Stampin' Up! #simplestamping #papercraftwithme

SNOWY HORIZON

This project came about as I was wondering what to do with some scraps from the New Horizons Designer Series Paper (DSP) pack. I must admit that I’ve been more than a little addicted to the New Horizons suite. So-much-so that I even made it the focus for my contribution to the February IDEAS Tutorial bundle.

This 2″ strip featuring a wintry scene was left over from a slimline card I designed recently. I simply trimmed it to 5-/2″ long. Next, from the On The Horizon Stamp Set I chose “Relax & enjoy your day”. Using Tuxedo Black I stamped the sentiment at the bottom of the strip. Then I took the trees image and stamped that over the greenish watercoloured area about half-way up.

With the stamping complete I cut a 2-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ piece of Evening Evergreen Card. Then using Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow) I mounted the DSP onto it leaving a narrow border on each side.

At the top of the assembled layers I punched an oval hole using the Detailed Trio Punch. Then I cut two 6″ pieces of ribbon from the 1/8″ Cotton Ribbon Combo Pack (one each in Misty Moonlight and Petal Pink). I folded the ribbon in half and threaded the loops through the hole in the bookmark. Then I passed the cut ends through the loops and pulled until they were secure. In no time at all my latest project was complete.

As an avid reader, tall images and strips of paper often end up as bookmarks in my craft studio. However you could also take the layered strip and fix them to the front of a card. That would be just as pretty, don’t you think?

PRODUCT LIST

BUNDLE BONUS – I bought the On The Horizon Stamp Set in a bundle with the coordinating Horizon Dies (not used today). Buying the two items together using the single ‘bundle’ item number saved my 10% off the cost of buying them separately. I’ve included a link below in case you want to explore this option. Unfortunately the dies are currently out of stock (expected back mid-March) so the bundle will not be available to order until then. I’ll be sure to let you know as soon as they arrive!
